Is there a button I missed that keeps new posts from groups I don't belong to off my main feed?

I don't think so. In my opinion, it should be a feature you decide to turn on, not something thrust upon us, like Facebook does with its "Similar posts" feature in the news feed.

Absolutely.

So far no matter what I do they keep showing up. I don't want to block someone for this, but if i wanted to see these things I'd belong to the group.

I was wondering about this too. I see huge numbers of posts from a member, (who I'm not following), made to groups I'm not in.

I'm thinking when someone creates a group post, than can also "share it" publicly. But

I can't respond to those posts because I'm not a member of the group
I can't customize my public feed (as far as i know)
Because those are public posts (even tho theyre also group posts), the only way (I think) I can stop it, is by blocking that member.

And because that member posts so much stuff, if i blocked them, it would really mess up my ability to see and comment on conversations I am involved in, or groups I am involved in, because we do have some overlap. I just want to be able to see other things besides a wall of one members stuff. What am I missing?

Missing? Nothing.

and @1of5 see this please.

@hankster thanks. Might have to do that, but how many groups are there?

@hankster cool I'll try that, it should reduce the spam in my life by about a trillion percent. I'm glad I asked instead of just giving up.

@1of5 ??? i would just start with ones you get trash from.

@hankster I can actually see what other members are posting now. Thanks man.

@MarkiusMahamius right on! yvw.

@hankster Unfortunately, hiding groups isn't a real solution to this annoying problem.

@bingst I'm hoping things will work better tomorrow but right now I'm still seeing group posts from groups I "hid" as recommended by hank. I spent quite a bit of time scrolling through new posts and hand blocking the groups that seem to encourage the most xposts, or sharing, or whatever it's callled. I've logged out and back in, and no improvement. Im hoping its just an issue with my new settings not taking hold right away. And im glad that it seems like the majority of the annoying xposts come from only a few groups.

@MarkiusMahamius It does take a few days for the "Hide Groups" to take effect in alerts - I remember this from when I last did it.

As for getting alerts from groups you don't really care about? The only way to stop that is to block them - and I think we have near 600 groups on site.

I'd much rather be getting alerts for the groups I'm in. (And don't get).

@RavenCT yeah I blocked alerts for about 10 groups that I'm not in, that were generating most of th e unwanted garbage in my feed. I'm glad most of those remaining 600 groups are either inactive, or populated by people who are courteous enough not to share their posts. Going through those settings one by one, is an unpleasant chore.

alerts can be edited on the groups home page for members.

join, check the alerts, leave

So join group, edit preferences, leave group?

Good to see the sites as easy to manage as ever.

@1of5 I don't really know man I'm just suggesting it for a try.

@hankster just tried it, but I have the feeling once I'm not a member...

@1of5 its been a long while back but i seem to remember doing that in a group I'd left.

@hankster I just tried it on 2 of the group's I don't want to see, so we'll see what I don't see ?

@1of5 if the alerts were off, does it matter if you're still a member or not?

@1of5 lol...okay....i think there is a block group button.

@hankster I'm guessing the alerts are all set to on as a default (gotta promote groups, I guess), hopefully they don't reset once no longer a member.

@hankster there should be a "don't show shit from groups I don't belong to" button, IMHO.

Also, you can see why I'm not in charge of labeling things.

@1of5 sure, i think for a new group member, default to posts and new member alerts maybe. I don't think they reset to on if you leave tho. as long as they are off when you leave.

@1of5 there is a "hide group" button. idk if it blocks notifications.

@hankster issue I'm encountering is posts from groups I have no intention of joining and/or have never even been too. It should be in my profile settings.

Whine whine whine. Now I want some cheese.

@1of5 it aint tho as far as i know. good luck...peace. lol.

@hankster No idea if it does or not, or if it blocks groups I'm a member of, which I don't want.

Guess I'll have to play around with it and issue a report.

@1of5 no...on each groups homepage is a hide group button just for that group.

@hankster gotta do the hide groups thingie, leave the group and member settings revert to on. For some reason. Thus ends my report.

Anyways, thanks for the best solution.

EDIT: Didn't work either. Fuck.

DOULE EDIT: Even logged out manually and it still doesnt work.

@1of5 yw.
