To give you an idea of the levels of crime and newsworthy events in my home city in the UK, the main headline today was 'Man not hit by bus'. An elderly man had a fall on a busy road but the approaching bus managed to stop in time to avoid hitting him. The bus driver and several passengers leapt out and helped him up and called an ambulance. Such are the excitements of life in the south-west.

Hahahaha thats ace! I once watched the news where I lived in HK and the headlines were 'man steals truck'. Seriously. Oswaldtwistle is like that. Nothing happens there.

A good news story, how refreshing. In Canada we still report shootings where nobody is even hit with a bullet, my American friends think we are nuts.

Friends who visit from other parts of the country, like London or the Midlands, say we are living in Toytown down here. But life here is equally real, even if less dramatic.

@CeliaVL Some people seem almost disappointed that they aren't at risk of being mugged or shot at, I guess their own lives just aren't that exciting otherwise.

Stopped buying my local paper years ago. The excitement was so great it sent me to sleep reading it!
