I want to get your reaction to this meme about Atheism and Agnosticism.

I thought it was humorous, if not a little harsh on agnosticism.
I think all Atheist should welcome the Agnostic Trojan Horse into our fortress of non belief. Especially when we realize that all atheists are Agnostics as well.

I don't get it. Why would an atheist want to introduce stuff like that to others, none of which has anything to do with religion apart from possibly spiritualism, ?

"all atheists are agnostics " ?. Please elaborate.

They wouldn't!!! That is why the "Trojan Horse"......that's the joke.
The fortress of non belief is already stuffed full of baggage/ideas very similar to those listed.

LOL I think that everyone is Agnostic. There are just honest ones and dishonest ones. Most honest ones accept the label, even some Theists. All Gnostics, and the majority of Theists, and a few Atheists are dishonest about what they 'know'

@zblaze I take your point but we live in an evidence based world and there is not one iota of evidence that gods exist. We once believed that certain old ladies who lived alone with their cats made cows stop milking and crops fail. We now know that this was ignorant superstition. On your basis we are now agnostic towards the existence of witches because there is no absolute proof that they do not exist'

The Greek gods were said to live on top of Mount Olympus. We now know that there no gods there or are you agnostic about that as well or just about the monotheistic god.

The words Gnostic ( having knowlede) and agnostic (not knowing) were coined in a different age and are anachronisms and not really valid in todays world . they should be confined to the dustbin of history along with homeopathy and alchemy

"The words Gnostic ( having knowledge) and agnostic (not knowing) were coined in" [ different ages!]
nostic is related to the Greek word gnōsis, "knowledge," which was used by early Christian writers to mean "higher, esoteric knowledge of spiritual things"; hence, Gnostic referred to those with such knowledge. This was knowledge of a specific topic, 'knowledge of spiritual/god things.
The term agnostic was coined by the 19th-century British scientist Thomas H. Huxley, who believed that only material phenomena were objects of exact knowledge.

Neither term has a thing to do with whether witches exist or the Greek gods.

To this day there are folks that hold that this knowledge is accessible, they are Gnostic. those that hold that it is not accessible are Agnostic, therefore IMO both are valid in 'today's world'.

I'm afraid we are still a long way from homeopathy and alchemy being confined to any dustbin.

@zblaze [dictionary.cambridge.org]

here's another meaning for you. I still say that it is invalid in todays world because it is not really knowledge but a belief in the supernatural

Homeopathy although proven to be of no actual benefit is still practised by some deluded people but anyone who still thinks that they can turn base metals in to gold is even more deluded.

@Moravian I agree there are many deluded folks out there.

It is a claim of knowledge, Gnostic. When it becomes a belief in the supernatural the Gnostic becomes a Theist.

Everyone should hug trees. It has nothing to do with any god or myth.

I once had a job doing forest inventory which meant I hugged hundreds of trees every day whilst measuring their circumference. All it did was earn me some money and cover my shirt in resin.

Agnosticism is the belief that the existence of gods cannot be proved nor disproved. It is therefore unknowable. Atheism is a conclusion made until better evidence becomes known - if ever. Many atheists are also agnostics.

Spiritualism, New Age crap, "mindfulness", and hugging trees have nothing to do with agnosticism.

You're right of course, they are just baggage similar to the baggage a lot of Atheists carry.

I don't think that Atheism is a "conclusion", however it might be considered that in Weak Atheism.

I consider it a non belief in any god or gods. Agnosticism is a position on knowledge, more of a view than a belief.

This is what Douglas Murray calls 'Jesus-smuggling'.
