I'm gonna make a run at kicking the habit beginning monday. any tips, tricks, funny stories are welcomed. I don't know if I'll be here a lot or a little. Anyway, if I get weird or out of line, I'll apologize when I can. maybe ?

Awesome resolve. Forgive me for asking, but why not today?

they say it's better if you have a plan. I've already been changing my food habits. letting some helpful chemistry build up in my system.

I've never smoked so I can't say I know what you are going through but I do know it's not easy. Don't know if this would work, just an idea. Make a list of enjoyable projects, something you'd really like to do (read a certain book, something creative- your wood carving, paint or fix something, maybe just take a drive, etc.) And every half day or day you don't smoke reward yourself by doing one of those things. Or instead of a reward, use it as a distraction when you have a craving.

Oh hell, I don't know! Good luck and hang tough! ???

thanks Bee.

I created a "hate" attitude to cigarettrs. The first thing I did was to crush my remaining fags in my hand, one by one. Literally.. Then, if I took a cigarette, by habit, when offered one, I would realise that I intended to stop, but rather than hand it back apologetically, I would stare at it in hate and crush it. Then apologise and explain I had given up. I would then offer to pay for it. This had the effect of soon ensuring no one offered me a smoke, but remained a friend.
( If I had handed it back the smoker would in all likelihood have said something inane along the lines of "You can give up again after this one" and encouraged me to smoke it.)

I think I've gone through the hate part. I think that would just feed my anxiety. I'm trying to just look forward to being done with it. I've had my share.

@hankster It's the physical destruction of them that reinforces your will power. Merely hating cigarettes is not the same thing. DESTROY THEM, LIKE VERMIN COCKROACHES !!!
I went cold turkey from 3 packs a day to zero with this approach. Before then, I had given up half a dozen times over the space of four years, but relapsed within a week.
Until you can hate them enough to crush them, like a despicable enemy, you risk relapsing.

@Petter I think I'll just give peace a chance.

Sleep well... Drink water.. When a craving hits you, exercise for five minutes or more

you know exercise is a dirty word. I reckon I better get used to hearing it.

@Nightshade1313 I remember breathing, it was pretty nice.
