Very unhappy about the accusations against Lawrence Krauss.
Increasingly it seems just smiling at a woman is dangerous to one's reputation. Accusations are all that's needed.

I, like Harris, tend to believe those who claim to have been harassed, or abused. And I know all about the culture that has taught men to be the initiators, but not provided appropriate tools.

To me, it is clear that Franken got screwed by republican women. He did not use his position to solicit sexual favors. He may have behaved badly, but he did not rape anyone, nor repeatedly accost anyone.

Krauss:
How many of the accusing girls/women are BELIEVERS who have no other reason to attack him than because they don’t like his words about reality?
How many of the girls/women have no sense of humor?
How many were participating in the banter and flirting and did not understand that they were? (Being very young.)
How many are just wanting to get their famous on?

===============

And, I agree with Dillahunty that it seems no one is very concerned about the collateral damage occurring.

Increasingly general boorishness is being equated with rape. This is dangerous.

Krauss claims that the student seemed to want to spend time with him. He asks her to dinner. And she gets crazy.
Should he have asked her?
Was she giving clues that he did not read correctly?

Weinstein and Nasser are evil. Krauss is no where near their ilk.

Keep in mind that even Harris has been accused.

This is NOT a one way street where men should be demanded to bear all responsibility for knowing and maintaining complete understanding of how others will respond to their words and behaviors. This is a confusing time.

Well, don't get me started.

I know I have done nothing I could be accused of. That won't stop the crazies from saying and believing stupid shit.

Learned tonight that a highschool junior, daughter of clients of ours, has been smeered at school by someone telling shit. A friend of her boyfriend kissed her against her will, and now it is being rumored that she "cheated" on her boyfriend. And he is being a total fucking asshole.
I am feeling like doing harm.

The kiss was wrong. BUT!! That is NOT the issue. The acceptance of a RUMOR as fact. THAT IS THE ISSUE!
He is a child. Full of mones taking control whenever possible. The kiss was wrong. But IT WAS NOT RAPE.
The rumor monger is the evil one here. We have to be careful before we believe gossip and stupidites.

Bill gives us a great summary of my thoughts about this issue.

I acknowledge there are some out there crying wolf as a means of attention or revenge, but at the same time I think what men view as acceptible is skewed. To say 'don't even smile at a woman or it's sexual harassment' is mocking and dismissing actual sexual harassment.

"How many girls flirt back" is irrelevant. As someone who has done it, it's because we are SCARED to say we are uncomfortable. How many men have views kindness as flirtation? I was STALKED at my job because a man took my customer service smile as flirting and then he tried to blame me for leading him on. I was TERRIFIED of him, so I was NICE and he followed me out back and started grabbing my ass. I was too scared to do anything.

That's why I find that argument obnoxious and dismissive. Because I've met men who will say everything was the girls fault when she just didn't want to end up the next "woman stabbed for rejecting man" headline.

In celebrity world, yes many will do whatever they can with a smile so that their future isn't ruined. If tolerating a few handsy inappropriate men gets them to a secure place sure. We will politely laugh and grin at your inappropriate jokes that deep down make us cringe.

Sense of humor? Ugh.

Your post has proved my points. You have taken the extremes in rebuttal.

Many people, especially the young, are not experienced enough to know what is and is not appropriate behavior, and/or humor. Circumstances are rarely clear. Language differences can be misunderstood. I learned that, when young, people from "Nah Lins" used words differently.

Just like with the religious who do not understand their lack of understanding, they are likely to dismiss those of us who do not believe. They will not get our jokes.

I live in Lansing, Michigan. Near the MSU campus. My wife attended MSU. The place has been rife with harassment and abuse forever. The female president was part of the good-old-boys club for years. She, and many others, dismissed hundreds of allegations, including those made against Nassar.

We both know of young women, and men, who have completely misread situations that they later understood.

"Creep" is in the eye of the beholder.
.

Women should not have to feel fear every time they leave their homes.

@Jacar no, obviously the old are the ones that don't understand what is and isn't appropriate or humorous.

Where's the link to the news report? I'm a fan of Krauss (and Harris). Did they appear together in some talk or something?

What will begin to happen is that the marketplace will begin to dictate behavior. Men who own companies will not hire women/girls because of fear. Now it may not be overt (since thats illegal) but it will occur. I have asked some of my colleagues and they have already started to screen applicants based on this "fear".

You realize that women make up half of the population right?
Also better to screen out men since on balance they are the ones causing the most difficulty.

@Myah Are you aware that men are getting the most press when it comes to this issue but are not as you put it "causing the most difficulty". Thats absurd, have you seen the news about the female pol who was harrassing her staff? Have you seen the press about the female teacher who bought weed for her fourteen year old student and was having an affair with him? Mary kay whats her name who had to be jailed. Many more stories can be offered. Its isnt "men" who are causing most of the problems it is the "men" who are getting the press. Neither sex is absolved nor causing most of the problems. It is equally horrendous. There are numerous stories of how women tried to extort professional athletes and politicians. Derrick colemans story comes to mind right off. So, NO men arent the ones causing the most problems. Men are just getting the most press at the moment.

@TheMiddleWay My colleagues will run their businesses as they see fit. If they are sued for their behaviors then they will either weather it or not. I believe that they will be fine. Discrimination is hard to prove and costly legally.

No one is condoning abhorrently sick behavior, BUT when an accuser is found to be lying then that accuser should be held to account.

Do you see how you reacted to my statement? Do you see the outrage (aka hysteria since you insisted on labeling me hysterical in your response, see how easy it is to label someone hysterical without addressing what they said) that you had?

That was my point. It was right for you to react so fiercely against the possibility of discrimination against men I hope you have that same fierceness in fighting discrimination against women. I hope you were not just a bystander when your colllegues said these things (I think it’s a common saying that if you don’t speak out against oppression then you have chosen the side of the oppressor - so if you didn’t speak out I would say you made discrimination socially acceptable).

It is shameful to so casually say that you would be willing to discriminate based on sex. It was shameful when You said it. And it was shameful when I said it when I reflected it back at you.

Plus it is simply ridiculous to discriminate against half the population! Think of how much talent you cut out.

@JayJackson

@Myah Are you making things up to justify a position? I think so. Where did I say, " i would discriminate"? Your hysteria is getting the better of you. If you cannot control said hysteria, a rational exchange cannot be had.

@TheMiddleWay Men are not the problem and for any rational human being to blame a whole gender for the acts of a few is TRULY ASININE and troubling. Did your father harrass or intimidate? I havent and many i know havent. You are blind and emotional. PERIOD.

TheMiddleway literally pointed out your fake news moment with a source. Providing a source in an internet conversion is the gold standard. Yet you reacted to this show of respect (I consider it very respectful to provide sources) by insulting him. In addition you used anecdotal evidence as a response to his actual data as if your personal experience outweighs multiple experiences from a population.

My conclusion based on these observations is that you don’t want a rational discussion

@JayJackson

@Myah First, if you use wiki as a source then you are absurd. Second at what point is "fake news" disproved? I used real world cases and news, while you and your wing man still use all inclusive phrases. That in of itself is irrational and baseless. What is "his" actual data? Where is the metric? Lol, continue to believe in nonsense and that all men are the problem and you will fail to acheive anything. "Fake news" rings of trumpism and I don't find that surprising considering the source.

@TheMiddleWay Once again just for you. MEN ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. Individuals are. It isnt that hard to comprehend. Your so called sources are wiki and fake news? LOL, REALLY? You may not be aware but let me clue you in, anyone can post or add to a wiki article, that in and of itself proves how unreliable those sources are. REALLY?

As far as "anecdotal", do you know what that word means? I used real world news and sources. FACTS are not anecdotal, they are simply FACTS. What metric or fact(s) did you use in your above "comments"? "Most" is a school yard phrase and is common to those who are uninformed. The body of your "argument" is just as thin as your so called "sources and facts". Adults debate with facts if you didnt know, now you do.

Lastly, USA TODAY ran an article that shows how "statistics" are either misleading or false when it comes to sexual harrassment. The article states that," men are far less likely to report an incident due to cultural pressures". See thats how facts are used. Also, anyone using the term," FAKE NEWS" should be discounted right off. No such thing and its a catch phrase that isnt productive. Silly really.

@TheMiddleWay NOW WE ARE GETTING SOMEWHERE CLOSER TO MY POINT. Individually these perpetrators should be held to account be they male or FEMALE. When you or your "wingman" myah wrote that "men" are the cause or much worse or whatever nonsense you two were trying to pass off as fact on this subject, it was just WRONG. You and this person subjected the WHOLE GENDER to the same scorn and ridicule that a few deserve not the majority. They actually deserve much worse.
Furthermore, by stating that my colleagues were practicing "defacto discrimination" by screening applicants is another all inclusive nonsensical sentence. You do realize that in the real world that screening is done all the time? Credit, C.V.,Background etc. and if you don't think that race, gender, age and economic indicators arent used to determine candidates for positions then you are truly not living in the real world. I am not condoning these actions but I am a realist. I have been in business for twenty three years and have tried to run my Clinic as consciously as possible, BUT being the realist that I am I also make sure that any other Nurse Practitioner, nurse, or other staff that I hire will "fit". I will NOT SUBJECT my employees livelihood and my business to a applicant who isnt a good fit. Its just sound. Screening helps with being sound. Believe me when I tell you that in the health care business if a person has a reputation for ANYTHING it follows that person from job to job like a stench of a skunk. I will interview as a courtesy but I am under no obligation to hire.

Lastly, A couple of words of caution to you and whoever this "we" may be. No crusade, cause, argument or debate will EVER find success by demonizing a MAJORITY FOR THE ACTIONS OF A FEW. It hasnt worked in the past and will not work now. It comes across as emotionally driven, uninformed and illogical. Call out the individual and his/her actions. Genders arent better nor are they worse, but individuals certainly are one or the other and their behaviors bear this out. Try that approach and see if it works because this one certainly didnt.

@TheMiddleWay ARE YOU DRUNK? Not anywhere in my initial comment did i write that, "my colleagues would not hire due to a fear of being sued" . Fear of a disruptive employee is why most companies do background checks, it is a MAJOR FACTOR in the hiring process. If a candidate has a poor history of interacting with fellow co-workers that candidate isnt likely to be hired, PERIOD.Read my initial comment AND TRY TO COMPREHEND!! The rest of your drivel is nonsense since the premise of your argument is bogus. Your above comment is a prime example of disinformation and the ignorance that people will try to pass off. IF YOU CANNOT BE TRUTHFUL THEN BE SILENT.

Lastly, many companies will NOT HIRE based on a myriad of factors. Call it what you will. Health care facilities will not hire anyone based on credit factors and certain criminal history, no matter the qualification or the length of time that that transgress has passed. Why because of apprehension, fear etc.

@TheMiddleWay Again if you can READ, i referred to my INITIAL COMMENT!! The comment that you are referring to was in response to your comment that we would be sued, in RESPONSE TO A WORD YOU USED in error, be clear on that. So ONCE MORE you have failed miserably in your attempt to discredit a quote. You really have no idea what you are writing about and that is quite obvious.

Lastly and to further emphasize my point, CAPS ARE USED TO EMPHASIZE, just one of the usages. Now you know, if you cannot do better than this....

@TheMiddleWay I hope against hope that you are more successful in your day to day.
