Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris - is on fire.

I'm rather saddened that such a beautiful Gothic Structure may be lost.

Apparently they were doing renovations. No word on what started the fire - but no foul play is suspected.

I was in Paris just before I met my ex, so OMG so very long ago. 37 years ago. I was stationed in Germany, it was a not terribly long train ride away. Notre Dame is beautiful, breathtaking, and so much history. I texted with my kids about this earlier, the middle daughter and I asked the same question. Where is Quasimodo going to live now?

I happened to see coverage on NBC. The streams of water they had on it seemed wholly inadequate. It seems to me they would have been better off using helicopters with those big buckets like are used for wildfires. It impressed upon me just how big that cathedral is.

I don't know if Paris has access to such tech for fire fighting?

At least they believed there was no loss of life.

I read that the force of the water released from the aircraft would collapse the walls. Drumpf made the same suggestion.

I heard mention the force of the water drop might have been more destructive.I think it was hard for them to get equipment near the structure too

@HippieChick58, @btroje I can see that. Then, by the looks of it, they needed probably about twenty more hoses, at least.

Damn..that's a fucking shame..sad really.

Despite my dislike of the Church I would have liked to have visited the structure one day. I'm bummed.
