I love that Chobani stepped up... what I hate is that this is even an issue. Shaming a child for their poverty, which they have no control over, is horrible. It's a disgrace to our nation to treat children this way.

They even point out that a bill was passed to outlaw it;
In 2017, a bipartisan group of lawmakers in the House and Senate introduced a bill which would outlaw policies that publicize a student's lunch debt. These practices can include making a student wear a special sticker or wristband, or providing cold sandwiches instead of the usual hot-meal offering.
So let's applaud Chobani, and the group that got this bill introduced. Let's get this bill passed....Kudos, Chobani! Boo, poor-shaming!

I live in a very smug, Repub town where most people have too much money, yet there are also a couple of trailer parks and also plenty of run down, old houses. I wasn't surprised at all when the local school board voted to not write off the lunch debts of kids, just that they would still allow the kids to eat even after the parents were in the red on the lunch bill. Got to keep teaching personal responsibility to those broke and struggling parents and their kids, don't you know, or else they might never develop good character....
Yet these local Repubs always support the govt. providing money for corporate welfare, tax breaks for the rich and money for war....

Time to find a nicer town, Tom! (but I can't talk...I retired in a very Republican neighborhood! ) but you're young....not sure of your career....If I were you I'd consider a final move...
@Robecology Sorry Rob. I don't think I have it in me to do LD dating or another LD move either. Maybe one more move next decade to a nearby city into a hipster neighborhood, but that's it. I need my friends here too much to consider another LD move, since I am estranged from my family.
As much taxes as we pay, every single student should be provided with breakfast and lunch at school. Use that tax money for something that benefits the common person,,, not the rich, not corporations, and not the war machine.
