We just cannot take any more embarrassment than what we have had to endure in the last 3 years.

We have lost U.S. senate, president, governorships, state house, mayorships, local school boards across the country in the last 10 years than ever before. Do not fucking set a stage again for more humiliation for progressives any more.

There's a local "best restaurant guide" in my area, the readers vote for best of this and that, and Chili's gets all sorts of awards every year. This is not because Chilis is good. This is because Chilis is the only restaurant that many people have in common. It's a meaningless guide.

Christians are losing everywhere but at the ballot box. Time for that to change.
VOTE!

Take the time to look and learn, I went to a Bernie rally and learned more about him than I could ever learn otherwise.

Bernie will not be elected President even if her gets nominated. This country is not ready to elect a Jew, Mormon, gay, transsexual, atheist, and also a woman for many more years. We are not there yet. We may not even elect a black president for another 25 years. Obama was a rare exception who came at a perfect time during a perfect storm - a bad, very old opponent, stock market crashing 800 points every day, high anger against Bush and Cheney, after 2 elective wars and over 4,000 American deaths.... This perfect storm and another as good a candidate like Obama will never come together again. Obama was good but he was also very lucky.

It does not matter who I like or you like. What matters is who is electable nationwide. If we think good will win, we are hallucinating.

There is a reason why Biden is getting more approval including in the South. The answer is just one word - ELECTABILITY. White and man will do, a jew will not do.

A lot of people are talking about not having another old white guy be the nominee or president, but if that old white guy has the ideals that I relate to then what does it matter?

What's wrong with old white guys?
Elizabeth Warren!

Even though a lot of these candidates are establishment, just like I think Biden, O' Rourke, Klobuchar, Harris, Booker, Buttigieg, and to a lesser extent even Warren are, they have a right to run. Most of these candidates know they're not going to win the primary, but they want to get on the debate stage to give a non-establishment account of what's going on, including Tulsi Gabbard and Mike Gravel (bet most of you don't know who he is - Pentagon Papers).

At the very least, we deserve to hear them, and they deserve to speak. I already know who is advocating for the status quo, but now the entire country needs to see that too.

The establishment is going to try everything they can to have Biden be the nominee first and foremost. They don't want Bernie, Gabbard, or even Warren getting the nomination. The establishment, including the Democratic Party, would rather have Trump win another term than to have someone who is actually progressive or liberal be the president.

Our primary system is insane -- it lets a few non-representative small states eliminate possibly great candidates before most of us get a chance to vote. I'd far prefer a national primary with a series of run-offs.

I'll just wait till Ohio has their primary 😑

These polls are usually pretty baised at this point and even when they aren't trying they still mess it up. It's still far away in politics, I'm sure most will drop out as they see the writing on the wall. Biden is the establishment choice clearly so the rest are dividing the progressives mainly. I do not believe that listing of Sanders. He clearly has more support than those numbers say. He is the main target of these polls. They are designed to make him look like he isn't as popular as he really is. Almost every poll I've seen is directed to that end. He is who the establishment is worried about. They can easily crush anyone else.

Not one of these sorry asses will return any donor's money once he or she will drop out.

Well when the field coalesces around the final candidates, (maybe after the early praimaries including California), we will find out who we get.
I have some concern about old white men being out front. It just seems like we have been there before.

And I have heard several say if Bernie doesn't get the nomination they won't vote... sad.... we will end up with at least 4 more years of 45 because the same people calling him a 2nd grader are going to throw a temper tantrum if their candidate doesn't get the nomination....

Is there some sort of financial or "status" benefit in this? Surely they don't all think they have a chance?

There are many other side benefits to running for president. The campaign finance laws are loose and still can be mis-used to gain a financial advantage. You can use the campaign funds for other limited uses such as pay previous campaign debts. Generally monetary gains are involved in all of the following:

  1. Self Promotion
  2. Be a Vice Presidential Pick
  3. Sell Books
  4. Launch a Second Career
  5. Develop Fund Raising Network
  6. Use Campaign Funds for Next Campaigns and other Restricted Uses
  7. Launch a Political Career Higher than Now
  8. Get a Stature for the Rest of Your Life
  9. Get ambassadorships, fat corporate board memberships, university presidentships, nominations to panels and so on

What does not involve money in American politics in the most capitalist country in the world?

@St-Sinner Not all donors object to this...supporting the careers of people who put themselves out there is not a whole lot different than grooming an young executive to get promoted...

There was a write-up... Biden/Harris as "Dream Team".

I'm rooting for Elizabeth Warren. Kamala Harris can be her vice president. 🙂

I think we shouldn't decide who's allowed to run off of a single states poll a year and a half away.

1of5 Level 8 May 13, 2019

Yes, we should not decide who should run but once they do, we can reject.
