One of the things I've learned from being here is that not all atheists come to their atheism through rational means.
And that's disappointing.
The curse of knowledge is the heaviest weight anyone must bear, and thinking is the loneliest of roads.
Emotion on the other hand, is only too natural.
My observation is that many who declare an atheist position are merely declaring anti-Christian sentiment. I am sure many can’t see the difference and I am also sure there are many that can.
And whatever that has to do with anything remains a complete and total mystery. Thanks for stopping by.
So believe in fairy tales or not requires rational thought? I was raised Catholic, did the church thing, Catholic school, yet never believed even as a child. To me it was just too much bunk to believe well before I was capable of true rational thought.
Me too. I've never, even as a child been able to believe something simply because other people do. I need proof and it has to make sense. To me there is no "believing" there is only knowing or not knowing the truth. I learned this at 9 years old.
Short of being infected by a sort of brain compatible athiest computer virus, can you elucidate for others on here what you are talking about.
I shouldn't have to. You know what reason is. You know how unreason works. All the ingredients are there. See what you can make.
?? What other means would there be?
The same things that lead people to a sudden embrace of any number of positions--trauma, for instance. Deciding there's no god could come from a very emotional, bereft-of-reason place.
