As a woman I think this is an issue only men might address just as aborting an early insemination might be exclusively a woman's decision. Certainly this barbarism performed on a BABY, is torture of an infant, especially when anesthetic is absent. The female genital mutilation is not comparable as one is skin & the other is a nerve infused organ without any merit other than superstition aka religion & cultural pressure.

If it’s illegal to perform FGM, then circumcision must also be made illegal, Iceland is correct. It is an assault causing actual body harm, and babies and children of both sexes must be protected from it. Babies are not born with a religion, and they are not the personal property of their parents. They are unable to give their consent for such invasive and often catastrophic butchery of their genitals. If there are justifiable medical reasons, that is quite a different manner. I hope Iceland do not back down on this under pressure from the religious lobby.

I still think it's a parent's decision to be responsible for their infants. And it's absolutely ridiculous to compare circumcision to female genital mutilation. I don't breed, but if I did have a male child I would have it circumsized. The CDC the American Academy of Pediatrics in the World Health Organization do indeed believe that there are benefits to the procedure.

@Kojaksmom I disagree, but that’s fine. Parents don’t own their children, that is quite a wrong idea in my opinion.

@Marionville and I can respect the anti-circumcision crowd. it's your child you have to do the best you can and making the best decision that you can for them. Think about it what decision does a parent not make for a child under the age of 3

@Kojaksmom An operation which is necessary on medical grounds is quite a different situation from deliberately mutilating a perfectly healthy child. That sort of decision taken by a parent causes injury, and therefore is assault, causing actual bodily harm. But, I can agree to differ with you here, my views and yours will never coincide on this matter,
