If you could travel in a time machine to witness any event supposedly of a religious nature, which event would it be...and what would you actually see? I find this question infinitely fascinating and wonder if someday we might be able scientifically to peer backward through the years with a kind of time telescope.

The parting of the Red Sea. Though nothing beats Cecil B. DeMille's version.

Jesus walking on water. It would prove a great many things true or false with a single incident.

Nothing to see. None of it existed or happened

I used to have those thoughts up until the age of 35 or so. Today I realize there would be nothing there to see. We have made it all up. Besides, our time machine only goes forward.

All things can become real, given sufficient mushrooms or herbs.

I like the idea @Amisja has about the Library. Also, the Council of Nicea. I could write an exposé: what REALLY happened?

If it's of a religious nature, why would I want to observe it, since it would only be coincidental, or imaginary?

My assumption would be to see what people misinterpreted, if anything. An example might be the "Miracle of Fatima" where some people stared at the sun and said it was dancing around, while others there saw nothing extraordinary. Although I think it is pretty obvious that that one was just your eye/brain malfunctioning due to an overload. If your eye isn't detecting anything because, say, you stared into the sun until you are momentarily blinded, your brain will just fill it in with whatever you think is there (the same works for the dark, fog, thick forests/jungles, etc.--if you are primed to expect something, you will see something).

I would love to witness the miraculous creation of Eve from Adams rib!!
Failing that, Mohammed's one night ride from Mecca to Jerusalem on a winged mule!
Failing both of those, perhaps a shot of whatever the authors of those events were taking!

If I could travel in a time machine, I would love to be in the day that religions are wiped out of earth (doesn't have to be in the past, right?)

I'd like to see the library of Alexandria. Not religious but if I could save a few scrolls or even the entire thing, I'd be happy. Then maybe we could find out all the good stuff we've forgotten.

Good choice, but it is religious in a way, a mob of christians burnt it!

I'd pass. Itd be in a language I didn't understand, so chances are I'd misinterpret it even worse.

Well, if we have time machines, let's say we let you take one of those electronic translators with you.
