Every time, I read about, see and think about Trump, I just cannot understand how addicted and prone he is to making mistakes, behaving badly and just spoiling his own chances to do better..

He won the election. He had the full Senate and House behind him. He could have used the opportunity to become one of the greatest presidents and made history just by ruling from the center or at least close from right of the center.

A few things he could have done that the voters would have preferred him as a change making President:

  1. Said... Now that the elections are over, let us take care of nation's business
  2. Said... I am the President of all American people
  3. Said... There are no enemies in politics, there are just opponents
  4. Said.. I would build bridges
  5. Not have brought family members into the Administration
  6. Showed compassion and empathy towards all Americans
  7. Refrained from hurling insults and from bad mouthing
  8. Not have allied so blatantly with dictators of the world
  9. Not have pissed off European nations

Each Conservative President and Democratic President has different and quite often opposing policies. Both sides will rant about it on each side. That will always happen.

Before Trump's election in 2016, it was clear that the voters decided to ignore these vices:

  1. His multiple marriages
  2. His playboy lifestyle
  3. His extra marital affairs with porn stars
  4. His Access Hollywood tape
  5. All news about his tax cheating
  6. His changing from pro-choice to pro-life
  7. Changing from being an atheist (written in the Art of Deal) to being a church going Christian
  8. His insults of John McCain
  9. His insults of the Pope

After Trump's election in 2016, people would have also digested:

  1. His bravado
  2. His indiscretions
  3. His immigration policy (it is popular)
  4. America standing up to China
  5. America asking for fair contributions to NATO
  6. America re-negotiating of trade agreements
  7. America opting out of Paris climate accord (Bush did that too).
  8. Not being a conventional president
  9. Not acting presidential

However, what a shame! he squandered the opportunity because he is just full of himself and has terrible self destructive tendencies.

I liked his taking to Twitter and not depend on the conventional media to disperse his message. We knew he was unconventional and that is what voters wanted from an outsider. Whether we progressives like it or not, Trump has revolutionized the White House communication through Twitter and it is here to stay.

Can't fathom how bad he can be to destroy his place in history with a golden and historic opportunity he was given to be not just the leader of the most powerful nation in the world but be the leader of the free world.

He is squandering it with his behavior every day.

That painting is ridiculous. It's about 80 - 100 lbs of belly fat shy of reality. Even pictures of him are a lie.

Also, below it's stated the American people elected him to office. Wrong. The American people elected Hillary by about 3M votes but the ElectoralCollege -- an arcane, outdated system of a bygone era -- put him into office instead. Get your facts straight.

What was the rule? Win with electoral votes or by popular vote?

If Hillary or Al Gore did not like the rule they should not have run. Now being crybabies is ridiculous.

@St-Sinner What's ridiculous is not making an issue out of a system so broken the will of the people is set aside so that we get saddled with the two worst presidents in history -- an ignorant rube who thinks he's a cowboy and a sociopathic game show host. Both R nominees who lost the popular vote.

Our election process is like a toilet that's backing up and flooding the bathroom with feces. You can either throw up your hands and say "Oh well, it is what it is." or, better idea, get it fixed. To accomplish that, you first have to acknowledge there's a problem.

@Sgt_Spanky American elections are declared with the rules. You accept rules if you want to play. If you want to change the rules, it is different issue. We should follow up with our U.S. legislators. Trump has nothing to do with it. He won it squarely and Hillary lost it big time. Instead of blaming the rules after losing, we should blame her and take to account for playing it lousy and losing it in spite of our support, effort, help, money and everything else we gave her. Hillary let the democrats down and Trump kicked our ass. That is a fact.

@St-Sinner Hillary was a terrible choice from the start -- an establishment D with no ideas and a lot of baggage. Yeah, she blew it in a lot of ways but she was still the popular choice. Trump "won" with a lot of illegal help from a hostile foreign country which makes his election invalid. Neither he nor Pence have any business being in the WH unless you consider Russia's interference a non-issue. I don't. So you go right on defending Trump and his completely bogus presidency. History will see it for the sham it is.

@Sgt_Spanky Bad news for you. The history will not record the bad things unless they are terrible. GW Bush manipulated Ohio through the State AG in his re-election when John Kerry lost. Do you see any mention anywhere after 11 years?

@St-Sinner Bad news for you, history has already judged GW as one of the worst presidents. Trump will take his place there as well -- most likely at the very top. His name will be there as soon as he's out of office. Just wait for it.

Success has always been built upon the failures of others!

trump is a one man show, a scripted reality tv show host!

trump is just a distraction, while the wealthy and their corporations are pimping these republican Fascists to destroy, Dismantle, and rescind any rule, regulation, and law that stands in their way of stealing and creating more wealth for them!

Our ”Bill of Rights” and our Constitution are only slight annoyance to them!

1

Trumpy has always been a loudmouthed carnival barker.

1

You're right, so many opportunities just pissed away. People will continue to support him as long as he makes it easier to discriminate against defenseless minorities and non-evangelical Christians. Very sad, indeed.

2

How do you not understand any of this?

45 has always been corrupt. He's always been a con man. He's always been a self-aggrandizing, compulsively lying, narcissist.
Before the election, everyone was told what would happen if 45 were elected. Most of it came right from the fucker's own mouth.
If you didn't believe it, that's on you.
We were all warned.
None of this should come as any surprise to anyone who was paying attention.

I'd sincerely love to punch every single person who voted for that scumbag right in their stupid face. Bunch of fucking dumbasses.

I agree he is all bad that you say he is. The majority of the nation agrees that he is immoral, narcissist, a liar. However, we cannot ignore some facts:

  1. The American voters elected him President in 2016 (this should tell how bad we must be)
  2. Our lousy candidate Hillary lost, almost gave the election away
  3. Bill Clinton was as immoral, wife cheating and a liar
  4. Voters were frustrated with both parties not getting anything done in Washington, their constant bickering and gridlocks. So they decided to give an outsider a chance
  5. Voters are happy that Trump got tough om immigration, standing up to China that no democratic or republican president did in the 30 years.
  6. Trump has a very good chance of getting reelected in 2020
  7. Our democratic top 5 candidates are in their '70s, 2 are in the late '70s,

I want Trump gone too but the alternatives are career politicians, 70+ years old Washington insiders who have not really done much other than keeping the status quo.

Nation's majority is not for impeaching Trump. Now we must wonder why the majority does not agree with us. We can be angry, frustrated, pissed but focusing on bi-lateral impeachment or voting him out in 2020 will work better.

@St-Sinner Your #3 is irrelevant. Citing those things is hypocritical, because 45 is even worse.

@KKGator

Democratic elections is a game. We lose when we do not play it good or play it right. The victor gets to make decisions. All of our frustration and anger should be directed to our losing candidate who got us in this mess in the first place. Her name was Hillary.

Now we should begin focusing on our 2020 challengers to ensure this time that we do not have lousy candidates like Hillary or Al Gore who gave the elections away to lousy opponents. Make sure we root out the old and frail democratic candidates who stand no chance against Trump in 2020. Bernie Sanders is one of them. If we do not do that Trump 2020 is guaranteed.

No one likes the opponent. We did not like Bush-Cheney, we do not like Trump-Pence. The conservatives hated Clinton-Gore and Obama-Biden. This is not new. There is hatred on each side.

We think the President is bad when we lose, the conservatives think the President is bad when they lose. Clinton is our hero, Bush is their hero. What is new?

We should take a very good look at what we are doing. Are we doing that? No. The Tea Party has been doing it since 2004. They are holding their RINOs (Republican in Name Only) accountable and defeating them in primaries at all levels (local, state and federal) since 2004 while we were toooo happy with Obama..

@St-Sinner You are entitled to your own opinions.

...I just cannot understand how addicted and prone he is to making mistakes, behaving badly and just spoiling his own chances to do better.

He could have used the opportunity to become one of the greatest presidents...

The reason he couldn't do the latter is because of the former. Because his whole life is defined by the former, the latter can never happen.

There's an old saying that there are three levels of realization that people go through observing others when they see the others behaving badly.

  1. First, most folks give the benefit of the doubt. They figure the others don't know how badly they're acting.
  2. Then they still give some benefit and think maybe the others don't understand the consequences of the bad actions.
  3. Finally they realize that the others just are the way they are -- bad actions are their nature.

More succinctly, the three levels are: 1. Ignorant, 2. Stupid and 3. Evil.

I'm afraid that we're well past levels 1 and 2 with tRump and the Republican party. We're very much into 3 -- Evil. And we won't get out until we can find a way to remove them from power.

2

He won the election but he still thinks Hillary should not have had 3 million more votes than he did. Those votes became the 3 million illegals and Trump wanted it investigated. Later on as women marched on Washington the votes became the votes of 3 million fat women. Any normal person would think that if you won it means you won and this is over now. Not Trump. He is thinking up new stuff again on this 3 million votes because it seems to be eating him alive!

Of course, that is only one subject. Look around and you will find sooo much else that trump is worrying his little brain about. He Tweets at 3 AM. I don't and I'm also not sending e-mail or chatting at that time either. Poor Donnie. The job has too much stress for him. Recently he has said that he will not play unless the others do it his way.

yes, but 3 AM where?

@callmedubious IDK? He could be in the shitter pulling an Elvis.

1

He is so self involved and self destructive he was a nasty asshole in his reality shows self important does what he wants respects no one abuses women no moral compass . He could have done good but listening to conservative pundits and sycophants he did nothing

Umm, he LOST the actual vote by 3 Million votes, for starters.

Not true. The rule of the game was electoral votes. He won soundly. Bush did it too but we sound like sore losers the more we do it.

@St-Sinner yup, something invented in horse & buggy days works So Well for us all now.........

@AnneWimsey If we do not like the game, we can sit out. But we don't do that. We lose and then we cry.

@St-Sinner Not Voting is what got us in this mess! NOT an option, "sitting it out" indeed!

I often think he could have just started with something like infrastructure...we all want better roads, airports, etc. He could have started out on a positive note instead of the immigration ban...

There are actually some things I thought could have been cool...letting people know quickly and immediately is a good thing these days...maybe some of his character flaws could have been viewed a different way...he was charming in his younger days in a weird sleazy way...

You are correct...many policies would have gotten support has his delivery been different...you would have thought a successful businessman would know that...you can deliver even the vilest of news if you frame it so that it is acceptable by a lot more people...he could have done that...

Instead, he started off rushing in, as most who do take overs are won't to do...men stepping in as step fathers, new management after a beloved manager leaves, etc. etc.

Too bad...he will leave a legacy of doubt, chaos, divisiveness and corruption when what he probably wanted most was praise, popularity and the love of the us people...

He will die an unfulfilled man...too bad...opportunities are still there and yet he continues to take the low road...it wouldn't be so bad if he weren't taking so many down with him.

Let's hope we can hang on to our country as he goes down that hole...many of us are willing to do all we can to help.

I think what is said is true... Once a crook, always a crook. But often we progressives are becoming like him with anger and vengeance. He gathers strength when he is at the center of the discussion. Pete Buttigieg said it right... We cannot make it about him. We have to define who we are and what will do for the people.

@St-Sinner yep--time to stop giving him our time, energy and money...he is no longer worth it...I love Pete...

"Charming" & "weird sleazy" in the same sentence...........oooookkkaaaayyyyyyy..............

@AnneWimsey Did you know him? Many men in their younger days were charming but when we look back, they were actually weird sleazy because we did not know or have terms for it back then...I have followed Donald Trump since 1979 -and yes, he was charming...he had the best smile...was he a creep, was he evil? I don't know..I didn't stick around to find out...

@thinktwice Agree, I was following him in New York since 1986 and read how women used to throw themselves at his feet. He was very handsome. Rich, smart, successful and handsome.... No one takes this combination lightly.

@St-Sinner Yes, he was...but, he was like a bad used car salesman...and does not like rejection or smart women... 😉
