Is it just me that thinks it's rude for people to put an in-person conversation on hold to respond to a FB notification or other text message? Person doing it is retired, not involved in any family emergencies. It's just a FB conversation. I think it says 'you are not as important as FB'. Or am I just old fashioned? Can't you wait until we are done talking?

Mostly rude, unless, the person you are speaking with knows you may get a txt from someone that needs answered - significant other, mother, best brother.

It's very rude concerning text messages or social media but if I get a telephone call, I will answer... And if it's a personal call, I'll say I'll call back... And give my undivided attention to the person im with...

not a problem for a luddite like me - stamped on my phone and handed back the pieces when I quit my work 20 years ago and have not bothered with one since

Very rude, just like it is rude to be on your mobile while paying for your groceries, etc, etc.

When I meet people, I turn off my phone.

It is rude to look at your phone while in conversation. The message is you are not important.
