Thanks what breeds are you keeping mostly now? On the flea issue, my mom told me to give her a bath in dawn dish soap for 5 minutes so I rushed off to do that, got her dry and found out she meant to say 15 I gave her a second bath last night, after which she seemed to stop twitching from bites but she still digs and gnaws on herself a good bit; I’m hoping she’s just tending to previous bites but I’ll have to get her some flea meds later. A local farm supply store will give rabies shots for 10 dollars on certain days so I’ll try that, and I’ve got a cousin that’s a vet that may give me a break if she needs worming. I still haven’t seen her make a bowel movement, she seemed to try a couple times this morning on our walk but wound up just peeing.

I’m not sure if you’re in the habit of takin in adult strays but if you’ve had any experience, how do you go about renaming them? Try a bunch of names and search for one they’ll respond to? Or do you just have to pick one, stick with it and retrain em to respond?

@Wurlitzer Pick a name and stick with it - use it a lot and reinforce the name with food and treats. Try various commands, sit, stay, leave etc and see what is already known .. set your own commands and rules regulations of behaviour and stick with them.
Medication is far better for fleas and worms - my experience is that vet stuff is effective, but pet shop stuff is often not effective..

I look after dogs from dachshunds to irish wolfhounds and cats, I do not routinely get involved in rehoming dogs, but have taken on a few over the years

@ShadowAmicus thanks I found the owner today and determined there’s no real abuse going on, other than the lady kind of being a flake who hasn’t showed up yet lol. Should have her home tomorrow, and I might get one of her puppies out of it. They’re half pitbull, with her markings. I’ll make a post about it soon.

Yeah I think I’ve heard that. I heard it’s also good to sprinkle in water to kill mosquitoes/eggs or prevent them too but I’m always suspicious of most chemicals around pets. Slightly comforting that it’s vet recommended but I’d feel better if a vet said it very recently for some reason haha. In this case I don’t think it had spread to the furniture or house yet so I gave her a bath with dawn dish soap n let the soapy water’s high surface tension drown them (I think/hope ) seems to have worked so far. Mom had told me to leave it in for 5 minutes for the first bath and when I got doggo rinsed n dry I looked n saw she had texted a correction: 15 so had to give her another one lol. Cue the cursing

@Wurlitzer , it's the lesser of evils. It's like 98% diatomaceous earth which is not a chemical.
