Sound like your normal politician. Of course we are much more democratic in the UK. Our new prime minister is to be chosen by 160,000 tory party members or just 2% of the population.

A reasonable exposition of an irony. However, the process for selecting the Tory leader is open to the public and is well publicized, as opposed to the E.U., whose leaders are selected in secret by self appointed elites.

@PBuck0145 Of course none of that is true. As I said the next prime minister is to be chosen by a secret ballot of 160,000 tory party members.
As for e election of the presidents of the top European posts, tis is it in an nutshell :-The Presidents of each institution are chosen in a slightly different way;

The President of the European Parliament is elected from among MEPs every 2.5 years.[1]
The President of the European Council is elected by the leaders in the Council every 2.5 years.[1]
The President of the European Commission is officially appointed by the European Council, taking into account the latest Parliament elections and with Parliament's approval.[1] However, a stronger direct link between elections and the President is emerging.[10]
The Presidency of the Council of the European Union rotates automatically between the governments of each member state.[1]
Roles[edit]

@Moravian The process for selecting the Tory leader is open to the public and is well publicized. Your denial is not sufficient refutation.
"Open" means the process is completely visible and transparent, and is not done in camera using quid pro quo deals among the elites.

The nominees for the European Parliament president are selected by the European Council, NOT by the MEPs.

Good luck to Scotland when they leave the U.K. and are subservient to the unelected Brussels bureaucrats.

@PBuck0145 The EU is bureaucratic and no one likes bureaucracy apart from maybe bureaucrats. It's a price we have to pay for the benefits which are substantial. There is a lot of nonsense spoken about the EU much of it by people who haven't a clue what they are talking about
I don't know where you found that video but it's one of the funniest I have seen. To compare the EU with the old Soviet Union is ridiculous.

If it is a choice between being the 51st state of the USA or a major partner in the EU, there is no contest.
