Not again!
I really, really.....REALLY need someone to invent a smoke detector that shuts off, when I yell, "I'm only COOKING!"

My smoke alarm often doubles as my oven timer, haha, unless I cook with my windows open. Sensitive little contraption, which is good, but it would be a great idea to have a safe word!

My phone turns on when I say "Hey Siri" so a smoke alarm that turns off with a trigger word is brilliant! Patent it! Though, I'm not sure I want another device listening everything I say at home. Like words blurted out when the smoke alarm goes off, yes, when I'm only cooking.

Not a problem for me. I take the battery out!

Its not a problem for me unless I cook after midnight. Then the other tennants get upset. Oppurtunity to request they stop doing luandry at 4am. Who the hell does laundry at 4am.

@StrongBow cool, I can go home now. 🙂

That probably means your smoke detector(s) are in the wrong place.

Or you try to burn the house down when you cook. 😉

You can stop into your fire department and they'll explain it to you. Might help if you sketch out where your rooms are in the home etc... Some will even come visit and tell you where the best placement is.

And if you haven't get a combo unit - CO2 and fire. Way more safety in one.

One place I lived, I had to disable it anytime I used my iron frying pan. Otherwise, it was ok!

I gave up on cooking tater tots or oven chips for exactly this reason. And don't talk to me about battered cod fish.
