I think it’s more likely to look like that if Trump doesn’t win as the democrats are totally looney.

.... and how do you explain "Good, Clean Coal'?

@Petter You seem to be overly influenced by the tree hugger nuts.

@Trajan61 Nope. I'm influenced by science and logic. Soppprting coal mining is akin to supporting water mills - it's obsolete technology. The USA should be directing its resources into nuclear fusion, thereby gaining access to a phenomenal source of energy and eliminating all reliance on oil and coal. Imagine the effect it would have on Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc. which would suddenly find themselves without political and financial clout.
But with enormous energy available, salt free water would be plentiful for the irrigation of arid land and thus the growing of food.
Forget short term politics and petty details. i use logic and look ahead, uninfluenced by Republican versus Democrat idiocies.

@Petter Science logic are fine but I think nuclear fusion may be quite a ways off and wind and solar are currently unable to provide enough economical power. So it seems we’re going to be dependent on oil, natural gas and yes good clean coal for a while yet. Common sense needs to come into play as that’s something the liberal idiots seem to be lacking in.

@Trajan61 You are possibly rather behind on technology.
Zero deficit (neither gain nor loss) nuclear fusion has been achieved already. If there were more support, it wouldn't take long to achieve positive output fusion, albeit still inefficient.
Consider the gas turbine engine. It was invented by a Norwegian cerca 1890, and he was achieving 10 horse-power outputs by 1904. Unfortunately, at higher outputs the turbine melted.
It wasn't until the 2nd World War that research was finally supported into better metals. Thus the gas turbine engine, the mainstay of today's jet age, was finally developed. Had governments been more supportive, jet aircraft would have appeared during the first world war.

@Trajan61 By the way, Spain now produces 40% of its energy needs from wind and solar, with a further 20% from nuclear fission.

Yeah, and I remember people on here claiming we were about to go to war with North Korea - that didn't happen either.

gater Level 7 July 18, 2019

Not since 1952, at least.

@Petter this site was not here in 1952.

@gater But I was, and so was the Korean war.

@Petter You missed my point - people on this site claimed Trump was leading us into a war with N Korea - and that didn't happen did it?

@gater Yet?

Scary....I think Trump wants a war so he can rally the nation behind him and secure re-election. He has certainly revved up the Iran conflict in order to get them to provoke us to war. Many will die horrible deaths if we have a war with Iran. IMO the draft dodger in chief doesn't care about the deaths of others as long as he is successful in achieving his goals.

The democrats are far more dangerous than Trump!

@Trajan61 From a European point of view, American politics is dangerous - period.

@Petter Especially since the Democrat party seems to be taking a sharp turn to the left.

@Trajan61 The REAL danger is that American politics has become knee-jerk bi-partisan. Nothing to do with right or wrong. It is only to do with supporting the opposite policy to the other party, whether each individual senator, congressman or judge personally agrees or not.
If Obama did it, then to any Republican it is wrong, and vice-versa!
Gone are the days of considering policies from a meritorious point of view, and for which America used to be admired.
THAT IS THE TRULY HORRIFYING ASPECT OF AMERICAN POLITICS FROM THE EUROPEAN POINT OF VIEW.

What's the matter? Don't you like Medicare, Medicade, Unemployment Insurance, Food Stamps, Social Security, free college, and $15.00 minimum wage? @Trajan61

@nicknotes Medicare is fine for those who have paid in but Medicare for all is ridiculous.

Don't you believe that ALL Americans deserve access to affordable health care? @Trajan61

@Petter Yes I agree politics have become quite partisan. The left especially seems to be becoming more and more violent. I’m afraid if something doesn’t happen we may be headed for another civil war sometime in the future. Obama stirred up a lot of racial hatred and paved the way for the election of Trump who seems to get a kick out of stirring the pot. In the community where I live people were so disgusted with the democrats Trump carried 87% of the vote and carried all 77 counties in my state.

@Petter, @nicknotes Free college is ridiculous also. There are a lot of people who are better off in tech schools rather than college.

@nicknotes All Americans currently have health care regardless of whether they have health insurance or not.

You know that is not true.....@Trajan61

@Trajan61 How about free college for all who want to go to college?

@nicknotes why in the hell should the tax payer pay for free college? I’ve never saw anyone denied critical care.

It would benefit the country if more people were educated...... It has been shown that college educated people earn more money in their lifetimes and thus pay more in taxes over their lifetimes. Free college is an investment in the future success of our country. @Trajan61

@nicknotes So we don’t need diesel mechanics, plumbers, electricians and other professions like that which don’t require college?

Of course we do. Of course all the jobs you mentioned require training beyond high school. @Trajan61
