I have worked in semi-rural Georgia for 20 years. I am well known as an Atheist. I have never had a problem though I am surrounded with christians.

if you were in Canada you could have filed a human rights complaint & probably got a cash settlement from that company.
OTOH, if you're with a bunch of brainwashed religious nutcases it might be a good idea to kinda blend in & not make any comments which could be held against you.

I understand your situation in the work place because I went through that kind of situation. I'm sharing the title of these books of self help. I'm still learning how to deal with difficult conversations. If your life is in danger or it's very uncomfortable, the best thing is to leave. But if the situation is because of the disagreement between religions beliefs, you can stay until the manager fires you then you probably will collect your desemployment benefits.

You have no standing now, because you quit. But the way to handle it is to get an attorney to address the situation, whatever is customary for that area. A cease and desist letter for example. It starts a paper trail. Do the best job you possibly can, and let them fire you. Then sue.

I've successfully utilized a cease and desist letter against harassment from someone I was renting from. It knocks them off their high-horse pretty quick.

Similar in many ways to my situation,my late wife and I moved from Southern California(San Diego), in 2003 to Springfield Missouri,a medium sized city in the Southwest part of the State, with over 500 Churches. We were married in a Ministers home in 1990 in California, and had not been in any Churches since.After moving here, I found finding work almost impossible,working a couple of temp jobs,but nothing lasting very long, as every business seemed to be tied to a Church,so my wife went and worked at the local Bass Pro call center, until I was able to draw my Social Security when I turned 62, that was 10 years ago.

Fred, I don't blame you for wanting to avoid a law suit. I suspect I'd lean the same way. At the same time you need support. Just know that there is lots of it including this website. There is a Chapter of the American Humanist Assoc. in Tulsa. I bet you are not as isolated as you think.

Document everything that you can. See a secular lawyer. Better yet call your local humanist group and get better suggestions. A lawsuit should hit them so hard that they rethink their behavior.
