I don't know about how history is taught in America, but in Scotland there is no longer linear history. Namely the industrial revolution came before the Vikings who in turn gave women and blacks the vote then started the second world war followed by the first which triggered the Victorian era where Britain invented slavery for the Romans to use...
Once society looses the context of history and sociology it flounders, unable to see or concern itself with the morality of what has passed.

The orange menace and his entire party denigrate education and intelligence in general, so little hope that we’ll ever learn anything from history (or science, economics, philosophy, math, ...).
