Recently I was called a communist. How would one react to this? I think I am a communist. So being called one is not an insult. But I realised that the person yelling behind me meant it as an insult.

"[bigthink." "Karl Marx … I joined QUORA and used this name as I did with another organisation."

I’d react with the words of Woody Guthrie:

“I ain’t sayin I’m a communist, but I been in the red all my life.”

May I ask the context of what you said or did that seemed to prompt them to this? Shit like this happens on Facebook all the time; strange that communists and fascists are butting heads again and they’re both usually American. But bonus points if you managed to do something to get called a communist in person ✊

I didn't say anything … I am merely promoting social justice amongst people in a public housing complex.

i don't subject myself to frustration b/c of what i believe should occur in geopolitics. just waiting for the crash & burn which i may not be around for; but it'll come.

It would depend who was calling me one. Some right wind nutbag I'd likely just laugh off as I know they don't even really know what communism is and just call everyone who's remotely left of the right a communist.

That said I'm a post-left green anarchist who's politics are very at odds with most communist theory (other than perhaps communist nihilism or anti-state communism). If the person calling me a communist wasca someone who isnt a ant-right pseudo-nazi than i might feel thd need to defend my honor. Lol.

One time I was at the pool reading book in the hot tub; Against His-story Against Leviathan by Fredy Perlman. This libertarian idiot comes up and says "Against His-story?? That sounds like some of that Marxist Feminist brainwashing that's trying to undermine the white male!"

The guy who called me thus is a frustrated aging conservative (probably liberal/national) racist, who also called me a germ and at fromage (cheese). So I didn't care, but it made me think about how insults work. When I was about 3 my favourite swearword, according to my mother, was: Steuerberater (fiscal consultant).

btw I like your label: post-left green anarchist I usually call myself a couch anarchist or anarcho-couchist.

Well I used to be deeply involved in the anarchist movement for many years. I co-founded the Victoria Anarchist Bookfair which I was involved as an organizer for 9 years, also volunteered at an anarchist bookstore for 10 years, wrote for a well known diy anarcho-punk magazine, did years of prisoner support work, and organized dozens of talks dozens of benefit shows, etc, cooked with a Food Not Bombs collective for years, ran a distro, any was barrassed and survieled by police a number of times over those years. So yeah, I'm an anarchist.

Do you know the term post left? Or know anything about green anarchy?

I would probably thank them for noticing.

Well … I wrote the communist party and asked them for some posters to decorate my balcony. Unfortunately they never replied.

I always like the response of "Oh, I'm arguing for the forced collectivisation of privately owned agricultural land? The crushing of the kulaks as a social class? 5 year economic plans?
Maybe you should stop using words you don't understand."

Not too sure what you mean … Sounds just like propaganda! Do you really think that corporations work without plans?

forced collectivisation or concentration of means of production in the hands of some corporation with their office in a tax haven …

the most communist entity I ever worked for was IBM

I am a out and proud socialist living in a country where it still isn't a problem to say so. Karl Mark created a manifesto for people to live by had everyone believed in exactly the same way. Unfortunately they don't. There will always be those, who through fortune or purposeful endeavour are able to increase their personal wealth. However no one gets there alone, we all go to schools, walk on roads, have hospitals (at least in UK) that we all contribute to. I believe that the playing field should be broadly equal and that if you, personally benefit more then you should pay more in taxes. I wish communism worked but it doesn't.

I was once accused of being a Russian troll, so my come-back to them was:
.
"Well, I could deny that and say I am not a Russian troll, but what would be the point? Instead, I will say that indeed, I am a Russian troll, and that my favorite pastime is trolling for trolls, and look who fell into my net!"
.
That was the last I heard from them . . .

You are most likely a "socialist" or progressive. Communism is dead, has been for several Decades, those still throwing the term around are, simply, dumber than rocks......

Nice Marxist poster to prove your credibility...ha ha. I think you need to have a 'disarming' followup to make it humorous. It is odd to be called names as adults, isn't it? I cannot say it has happened to me but it would be so strange to be labeled as something more as a conversation ender than a conversation starter. I'm not really sure how I would react either...

Unfortunately I don't have the artistic talent to modify good old Karl: turn him into a pope or a saint
