The vicissitudes of naming places. In 1953 Chemnitz was named Karl-Marx-Stadt. Then in 1990 it was rebranded. WTF?

Trump conquers the world

Something tells me you are playing devil’s advocate here. Just love to get an argument going, aye?

Let’s rename Australia “Trump Island”.

Version French

Any place candidate?

This is not an issue for me.

In our country, Cape Canaveral was briefly renamed “Cape Kennedy”. The locals reacted with fury. “Rename Cape Cod as Cape Kennedy if you want to honor your man” they said. The point was taken.

Politicians renamed Denali, the highest peak in North America after President McKinley, who had little association with Alaska. It took a century for the original name to be restored.

The people of Chemnitz should have said “you wanna honor Marx, then rename Moscow”.

Trier had to buy the rights to be Karl-Marx-Stadt 2018. Luckily the Chinese chipped in.

In Tulsa, OK they are renaming streets and buildings that once referred to men who were historically significant in the town but now must be erased because they may or may not have been racists.

It is a rather interesting phenomenon. It's all a political power game.

I’m waiting for the renaming of anything connected with Benjamin Franklin, a known trader of slaves.

It might be a very very long wait.

What was it's name before it was named Karl-Marx-Stadt.

It couldn't have been named that long.

@Matias It should have had it's name back a long time ago then.

It would be interesting to know whether the same apparatchiks were still there to watch the ceremony.
