This needs to be fixed - Homeless father with five children can't find a shelter that takes men with children.

[fox5ny.com]

BTW I entirely understand there wouldn't be a battered women's shelter that would take him - he's not that case.

However - there's no homeless family shelter to take him because he's male? That seems wrong.

No surprise. There are many aspects of the male experience that are invisible to the nurturing population.

This guy didn't know he could get help with childcare through Dept. of Social Services.

If he'd known he wouldn't have needed to quit his job to look after his kids.

A lot of folks don't know where our societal safety nets are so I can't blame it entirely on gender bias.

You can't know until it happens to you.

It's one of the reasons I'll tell people about calling 211 - they have so many free and low cost programs to refer folks to.

Sounds like ‘he’ need to be ‘fixed’... Five children, with no means of support?

Varn Level 8 Sep 7, 2019

Job loss can come out of nowhere, loss of spouse/partner also. Life happens. Whatever happened he is trying to care for his kids. He needs help. It doesn't matter why he needs help, just that he does.

@HippieChick58 If his life decisions have him homeless with five children, will ‘help’ eventually have him needing more, with his eight children..? Help the kids, heck, take the kids - but anyone this day and age responsible for pumping out five children is not responsible nor deserving of help ...beyond my suggestion he be neutered..

@Varn focus on the here and now. He has kids, he is trying to keep them together and get help. Poverty is rarely anyone's decision. No one wakes up and says I want to be poor today. It doesn't matter why it happened, it is the issue at hand today. Help will get him through today, and tomorrow. Help will allow him to find a job soon and get more secure housing for the children, and meals for the children. We all need help sometimes. I am not going to judge why he needs help, that isn't my job and it isn't going to help him or the kids. Taking the kids from him is not going to help the kids either.

@HippieChick58, @Ms_McSteven This appears the difference between women and men … where most men just skip it, women ..do their thing. I was half joking, but the responses are telling..

@Ms_McSteven A woman with five kids in this day & age - tubes tied ~ I’m talking reckless reproduction before homelessness. I had a wife bail, good thing we’d agreed on only two children - holding that together was difficult enough (before she took our home).

@Ms_McSteven For some, 3 is too many.. Two worked for me, later in life, too. I’m from a total litter of four, even that was too many. I’ve daughters … one of each was my desire, but had the sense to ‘settle’ with them ..and can’t imagine which I’d have returned.

That guy sounds more like a hoarder than a parent.

Would you say the same things if it was a mother with five children? There's a myth going around that we men are in control of everything around us.

@BitFlipper I think I already did, "A woman with five kids in this day & age - tubes tied"

Yah, not only are 'we in charge,' we're always to blame 😉

@JesseThompsonmental problems” … honestly.. I was wondering the same....

It’s long been a quiet dilemma for me, though, when a starving child with a distended stomach was used to solicit donations, I remember my mother responding, ‘so they can go on to have a dozen more…’ Made, and still makes sense.

And, blaming ‘us,’ again.. Did these tribes not bread like animals before the US was a nation, or not? I know they rounded up ‘their own’ and sold them into slavery … but then, that must have been ‘our fault,’ too 😕

Guess you missed or skipped a response where I mentioned neutering this irresponsible ‘father’ as a bit of a joke.. But, considering the burden he’s placed on humanity, yes - sever his ability to produce even more.

Seems the difference between many; some look out for the individual, others look out for humanity. But if one’s raised to accept limitations, they’ll likely remain incapable of viewing the larger picture…
