Is your reality mine? The recent death of Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has resulted in numerous obituaries and criticisms. The following by Craig Murray together with excellent reader comments gives views different to many:

The following search enquiries help put Mugabe's efforts in perspective -

Colonial Massacres in Africa (these include every major European country from GB through France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Portugal to Spain and of course the Catholic Church followed by the evangelisers) -

And do not forget the effect and number of slaves shipped out to the Americas.

always two sides to every story

A decent one and a vile one?

My ex was from Malawi and told me about an amusing incident that proves that racism is not confined to whites.

Robert Mugabe to the tobacco growers of Zimbabwe ;
"I must congratulate you on an excellent harvest. This year you have grown 10% more tobacco than last year. This is good for you and this is good for Zimbabwe. Not only will this bring in more much-needed foreign currency into our nation but it will also kill much more white fuckers"

On a more serious point, it was her that told me in no uncertain terms that many Africans themselves look back upon colonial rule with misty-eyed nostalgia. There is hardly a country in the whole of the continent that has not suffered worse human rights abuses under their black rulers than under whites. Not to mention the massacres, famines, and constant conflicts that trouble the region. So when I read "His life and memory must not be allowed to feed a racist meme of African cruelty and incompetence." I suggest that Mr. Murray get off his liberal white horse and speak to some people on the ground.

@273kelvin German South-West Africa. You might want to look that one up.

@MrBeelzeebubbles Could that be any worse than Rwanda?

@273kelvin Yes. It was the blueprint for the Holocaust.

@MrBeelzeebubbles Thank you for your input. I did not know about that one. However, I did say "hardly". Even with that in mind, if you stack up all the others like Ide Armin etc. It cannot be said that African nations have been a shining beacon of life and liberty in the years after colonial rule

@273kelvin It is a sad truth that almost invariably the formerly oppress make the most efficient oppressors.

No amount of whataboutism can exonerate this s.o.b.

Always ignore anything that comes after the "but" and there you have it.

@FrayedBear
It maybe be reductionist but it metaphorically boils down to the poor excuse that the man who beats his children can be understood if not forgiven because he himself was beaten as a child.
I cannot accept that.

Craig Murray put some important context to Mugabe's life and perhaps why he became the man he did. Again, white privilege shows it's ugly hand in much of the problems on the African Continent.
