A racist bit from our past that has always bothered me. I guess it always will as long as I can remember.

56 years from now will they be talking about gun violence? We haven’t improved too much on violence or racism.

so sad and so outrageous

And can you all remember how horrified we were? (And after the first mass shootings)? And now it is getting like, "now what?"

The world & we have changed, and not in a good way!
I am glad I am old......

And rampant racism, the perpetrators had to be tried in federal court because local and state courts wouldn't convict, I remember

Yes, was rampant racism, which unfortunately still continues.
There were 4 alleged bombers. The first was convicted in 1977 by the state, two more were convicted in the mid-90s, and the fourth died before being charged.

That bombing was about racism. It was about white men thinking they had
the right to kill black people because they believed they were superior.
It was about white men thinking that they could freely use terrorism against black
and brown people because they believed they were superior.
The mindset of those responsible has not changed with time.
We saw that in Charlottesville. Just because the white boys were chanting about
jews not replacing them, doesn't mean that they don't feel the same about blacks.

They're still doing it now.
Mostly they're wearing police uniforms when they do it, because the hoods and robes clash with the badge.
Or they're carrying tiki-torches and acting like they're so big and bad.

Nothing has changed. Not a damned thing.

I agree. I had to smile at the “robes clash with the badge” Not that I think it is funny, but yes I agree about the cops.

We call this white privilege. A hold over from our Nation's Imperialistic origins. White privilege is rascism.

@t1nick Damn right it is.

I will never understand the use of terror to get your way. It is horrible and usually backfires as this did with more people getting behind civil rights in response to the atrocity.

It's not that you're wrong, because you aren't.
However, as we've seen, while the racist terrorists of the Civil Rights era were turned on by the majority of the population, the die-hards were driven underground. But only for about a minute. Their resurgence has always been bubbling just below the surface.
They're not afraid to say they're back now. They aren't afraid to go public anymore. They believe they have political power again, and they actually do.
They also have weaponry that they didn't have access to before.
Sure, they can keep fire-bombing black churches, and they do, but now, the "enemy" has expanded exponentially.
They have so many more targets, and they have the weaponry to kill more of them.

I remember when nazis were considered "bad" by everyone.
Didn't really take all that long for that to change either.

@KKGator Nice one. Saves me posting that idea in a much less loquacious manner! 🤓

@Geoffrey51 You calling me "long-winded"????

LMFAO!!!!!!

@KKGator No not at all. Absolutely no waffle there at all. Loved it. ...and there are paragraphs!

I get so narked when posters rattle on about nothing with no argument for about 300 words!

Thanks for reminding us, lest we as nation forget.
