Wow. I had no idea there were so many thoughtful, respectful and interesting people gathered in one place. Thank you all for accepting me into your community. I feel pretty cut off from this world (as in no one around me who feels this way about religion), and its nice to have a little outlet to know I'm not completely crazy. I have noticed myself getting depressed more often since realizing I was atheist in January of 2017. Its just hard looking at the world one way and everyone you know and interact with see it completely differently. Its lonely. So, thanks for the warm welcome, I guess. I hope I can contribute in a small way to others' happiness here.
Cheers

Hey, don't beat yourself up about being an Atheist mate, instead Congratulate yourself for crossing from the 'Dark Side' over into the Light of Freedom of Thought, Knowledge, Reasoning and Logic where your eyes, ears and mind are truly opened up to really amazing things and experiences.
Welcome aboard the Reality Train.

Welcome to the asylum. Enjoy your stay.

There are more of us than you think. The religious wear their graven images so they can identify with each other. When you look around you don't see the people who are like you because they don't wear anything -- though there are religious people who hide their images or don't wear them at all.

Wow that's a really good way of wording that.

Welcome aboard 🙂
i know the depressing feeling after losing faith .. its hard on the person for a while especially if you haff astring belief. Once i got over it I found coming forward was the real barrier then my life took off... it opened channels in my brain never knew of... i even felt smarter or discovered how my vision and thoughts became so clear. It's abeautiful feeling.

I was in the same boat @nakedterror. I had no one to talk me through the existential meltdown I went through when I was detoxing from my belief in Jack and the Beanstalk, I mean Santa Clause. Sorry I mean the Frog and Toad stories. It is difficult when you spent as much time as I did ensconced in Christianity to peel yourself away. I was fused with the belief. Breaking away was not a day by day process. It was a moment by moment process. A lot of scary tears and lonely fits. I was sure my wife would leave me (she did not and was not about to. I have the greatest wife ever). But what I knew was that I could no longer subscribe to what went against every rational fiber of my being. That I knew I simply could not do. And the Internet was not around then. What a heroin find a place like Agnostic.com would have been for me. But one thing you are not is alone. We stand with our arms wide open nakedterror willing to lovingly accept you regardless how you view yourself.

Welcome to true, unmitigated, compassion where you will not be judged.

Got a little carried away as I tend to do at times. My apologies.

Sincere thanks. My wife keeps threatening to leave, but hasnt yet, so hopefully she comes around. 🙂

@Nakedterror

“And if a woman has a husband who is not a believer and he is willing to live with her, she must not divorce him.”

1 Corinthians 7:13

@Truthseeker1968 it's funny, I pointed that out to her. She said Since I didn't believe any more I wasn't allowed to quote the Bible to her. I think the real reason is we both know that I studied the bible more than she ever did. Ugh.

@Nakedterror It’s impossible to rationalize with an irrational mind. Brainwashing, it is a bitch.

@Truthseeker1968, very interesting. I didn’t know a verse like that existed, thanks.

@woodstar I didn't either. I just knew that a relationship that is unequally yoked was biblically forbidden. And I told my wife as much. Years and years after I took another path I brought this up with my wife. I said she was, as a Christian, supposed to leave me. She told me to go read my bible - would not give me the reference. I finally found that damn verse, went back to her and told her. She said "I am not leaving and my love for you has not and will not change". Best wife ever.

@Truthseeker1968 yeah, it was a bitch to shed my own and now I'm stuck surrounded by more brainwashed people. Woo-hoo! 😑

@Truthseeker1968, that is great because I feel that when women find out I’m not religious, that pretty much ends things for me, but common sense tells me there is no limits to love, including a religion or lack of one.

@woodstar That’s the thing about religion - it convinces a lot of people go against what is a positive, natural, human inclination. It really does poison everything, Hitchens.

Welcome, grab a beer and sit by the fire with us.
(don't tell the religious guys that the naked dance around the fire starts after they are gonetp bed)

Well, crap. Nobody told me about the naked dancing, either! Who all has seen me naked and decided not to invite me??😉

Welcome, jump in the water is fine.

Welcome but remember not all of us are always thoughtful or respectful but we will always be interesting. Enjoy yourself here and remember there are others like you where you come from but they are just afraid of saying it.

Welcome to the community.

I’m sure you have lots to contribute....we all do.

I'm totally with you. Have felt the same since 2007. But, I'm a fighter and keep pushing forward. I was thrown out of the evangelical/fundamentalist church and turned over to satan. I have found wonderful friends, true family. Since then. Welcome.

How is satan, btw? Havent really gotten to know him yet, lol.

@Nakedterror lol. Havent had the pleasure likewise.

Howdy and welcome here.

Some of us make the choice in early life,to "Tune out" the repetitive "Same old song", my late wife and I were married in a Ministers house in California, during out 27 years of marriage,we never visited or became part of a Church's congregation. Perhaps due to that,my job prospects were very slim, as I live in Missouri, part of the "Bible belt",but we never socialized as others do.

This is a wonderful place to lick your wounds during a transition out of religion. It's helpful to know you're not alone in seeing through the fiction.

There are so many discussions going on all the time here on various topics with questions that people raise while honing their views, that whether you are sharing or contributing, it is a positive and affirming community.

It is an oasis for when you feel that everyone around you is saying "the answer is Jesus" or "trust in the universe to answer your prayers" or some such nonsense. Welcome!

Why, thank you!

Welcome, Jeph! This is an oasis for me ... so much so that I hadn't really noticed how deeply resentful I was becoming of the overwhelming number of religious surrounding me. I hope it becomes the same for you, too, and I'm looking forward to getting to know you better. 🙂

That's one of the worst parts, I think. Looking around you at people you love but are now kind of annoyed by. Lol

@Nakedterror It can be hard to live with, but perhaps having an outlet for your beliefs among friends (there are a lot of us here) will make it easier to tolerate being around your loved ones. Maybe, in time, some of them will change their point of view.

As with any thing/subject/group, there are reasonable human beings here. And there are as many without any sense of propriety. Beware. And never TAKE offense.

Noted. 🙂

@LimitedLight Is this question for me?
