I believe that faith is a human construct but essential for humans to be able to get on with your life. In turn it led to the reinforcement of religious ideas and the human construction of religion.
If you believe that Faith is holding a belief without evidence,as I do, then I hope that you can see that early men and women were faced with dilemas like the following.

A large animal is ambling towards you but has not yet seen you. You have to decide whether that animal is a meat eater or a grass eater, never having seen one before . Having made the decision say that it eats grass you have to have faith in your decision to give time to round up your family and get away in case you were wrong.

Faith in religion however, is useless because it will never be proved whether you are right or wrong. It would be much better (in the terms of the problem above) to get on with noting the characteristics of the animal from a distance and somehow adding many animals so that they can quickly be identified as grass-eaters > In Other words to do science.

My main point is that it is better not to try to get rid of the concept of Faith. It evolved long long ago and it has uses outside of religion.By all means get rid of religion though, and good luck.

Good points. I feel that faith is important until you know. But don't rule out knowing when it becomes available. Case in point, to use your example: predators tend to have forward-facing eyes, while prey tend to have side-facing eyes. That's usually how you can tell the difference.

Good science.

That happens to me quite often if I hit submit while it is already started. It's easy to do. I check the feed after I post anything to make sure it didn't happen.

I do not look at any of the above as "faith." On a personal level I will take Mark Twain's definition of it that "faith is believing what you know is not so."

I do not have "faith" that a dropped ball will fall to the floor, nor "faith" that my brakes will stop my car. In the case of your large animal above coming towards you, it has likely already smelled you, and whether or not it is a meat eater may not apply. I do not see anything about "faith" in this at all. You must avoid that large animal for reasons of your own safety unless it is domesticated in some way.

Well argued but I stick to my beliefs about Faith.

Well said. I think the problem is organizing and enforcing faith. Like you said it is essential just to get by. It would be impossible to have the proof of everything one thinks they know. It becomes a problem when we are taught not to question it.
