It's been quite a disastrous weekend so far. Late Friday afternoon I heard a commotion outside. When I went outside to look this is what I found. After surveying the damage (broken window and driver's door handle along with numerous sizable dents) I called my son to come help clean up the mess. He was a life saver.

Then about 24 hours later I heard a very similar commotion. Again I went outside to assess things. Another tree had fallen that was less than 30' from the previous tree. Thank goodness it didn't hit my car because it was about 3 times as big as the on that did hit my car. To give you an idea of the size of the second tree that fell, the stump that was left was approximately 8' high.

The moral of this story: You must make sacrifices to live where the air and water are clean, traffic is non existent, and nature abounds.

I can never leave a place that is free from toxic exhaust fumes, free from the sounds of transportation, and water that isn't tainted with chemicals. I don't mind driving an ugly and dented car.

I've had things that size land on my roof. Always a bit of start. But I love the boonies. ❤.

I don't think I could live in or around a town or city anymore.

@SonnyBubba I'd need drugs! 😂 I have neighbors but they aren't peeping in my windows.

And I live on a dirt road right off a paved one... Perfection! For now.

I was going to say it reminds me a lot of my place, but I'm just bordering the city, NW GA. It does remind me I need to cut down some trees close to the house.

You live in NW Georgia? I live in NE Georgia.

Your insurance should cover that.

I'm not sure how to deal with it. I rent this cabin and I wouldn't know if the lady has home owners insurance or not. I fear car insurance would want to total my 20+ year old car and my plans were to drive it until one of us dies.

@SonnyBubba Ah. Well before you do drive it have it checked out for road worthiness as there may be unseen damage

@Geoffrey51 good advice. I have a 38 year old son who has been disassembling my shit since he was about 8. He started learning how to reassemble in his teens and has been turning wrenches for a living ever since. He's coming over to crawl under it and look around. The old 4Runner has lots of miles, but it's become like a dog or something that I would really hate to part with. It's the perfect vehicle for my location.

@SonnyBubba I understand that! Good luck with it 😉

Windstorm?

The trees were actually killed by vines. The were exceptionally dry and we had a big rain (no wind) and I think they absorbed so much moisture that they couldn't hold up.

@SonnyBubba Its been horribly hot and dry over here in Alabama, but finally that seems to be over.

@WilliamFleming are you originally from Alabama? You don't hear of many of us old farts who are atheists and from the south. I was born and raised in Louisiana and left there in 1980. I understand the kind of "hot and dry" you're referring to.

@SonnyBubba Yep, my roots are here but I left for a long time before coming back to retire.

I don’t actually call myself either an atheist or an agnostic. I don’t know what I am except bewildered. I am absolutely no longer a Baptist.

I suppose you are an LSU fan? I’m kinda mad about that thing yesterday. 😟 WAR EAGLE!

@WilliamFleming yeah, I was raised in the baptist church and even had uncles and cousins who were preachers. They hated when I would tell them religious jokes.

I am an LSU fan, but not a fanatic. There's not much from my home state worth bragging about so if a bandwagon comes along you have to jump on it. Oh, I forgot about the Saints. I guess we have two things worth bragging about. I like Auburn too. More so than Bama. Auburn played a helluva game yesterday. I was tense the entire game. College football seems to be all over the place this year with a lot of upsets and games that are much closer than predicted. Go SEC

@SonnyBubba It was a great game, fought vigorously. The Alabama games are usually downright boring IMO. I hope LSU beats’em Saturday, and I am praying for an Auburn victory in the Iron Bowl. Oops—not s’posed to pray on this site. 🙂

I think Louisiana is a great state, full of intelligent and warm-hearted people. It’s at least as good as any other state IMO.
