In my opinion, all forums on the internet are 'open' for discussion and should never be used to affirm a specific ideology. All input should be welcome to balance the conversation.

Entire proposition seems a tad B&W fallacy to me.
Suppose that a woman wants to ask a question of men, but another woman feels so differently about the topic themselves that they feel obligated to respond?
Or vice versa?

Why not create a third option? One which will sort the target audience from the rest, so others could respond but it would be in a side thread and not detract from the OP?

I chose "directing questions to certain people or groups is fine" as my answer for two reasons.

First, in the case of this particular post, this is a poll and it's common to address polling questions to particular demographics, although this one does not.

And two, all posts directed to particular groups are not inherently discriminatory and should not automatically be judged as such without challenge. For example, I may post to my Astronomy or LGTBQ groups without discriminating against anyone. Or someone may belong to a "tight knit" crochet group and address a post to only them.

That's not to say a post may not go on to become discriminatory, but in such cases where there is no legally discriminatory language (racial bias, hate speech and so on) the post must be allowed if we are to participate in a free society.

Finally, calling a crochet group, "tight knit" is another good example of non-discriminatory speech that must remain FREE and available for use.

it really depends on the topic. i don’t really get offended, but i always find it a little funny when people ask a question that could be answered by anyone attracted to men and specifically direct it at women. so there are some situations when i would say there are unnecessary lines being drawn, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t ever seek opinions from a specific group of people.

Not sure how admin could stop it without individually pulling selected posts. I think they would do that by default if a poll was offensive.

As far as the poll you are mentioning, it was a little frustrating to me, but nothing troubling enough to form further restrictions.

Why not disagree with everything, when you do not comprehend what is right in front of your face???
