You could look on "Meetup" as well as check the local Helpline (usually 211?)

Sounds like you may have to be a pioneer there.

Try calling a Unitarian Universalist church. They would likely know of a secular group. You can do a search from the homepage at www.uua.org on the Find a Congregation search tool.

I think some meetings are atheist specific... although they are harder to find no matter where you are.

Another option I tell people is that if they are not homophobic they could go to the gay meetings, which generally have a lot less of a religious aspect to them (not all do however).

Back when I was getting my 2 year degree in Addiction Studies, i seem to remember there were numbers you coudl call to find local meetins specific to your needs.

I used to have that discussion with my late mother, who was an AA sponsor. We went back and forth about what a "higher power" meant, and what happens if you need help and are not a believer. She could never really come up with a satisfactory answer, but the closest we came to agreeing on it was this: That a higher power could mean anything you believe is higher than yourself, e.g. the universe, your family, etc. To me, a person shouldn't have to define something like that in order to satisfy the narrow parameters of a recovery program. I hope you find the help you need, and don't have to deal with unnecessary philosophical mandates. Good luck; recovery is very possible!
