So. A while back, a good friend of mine - who has known me for many years, told me about another friend of hers. She said we'd likely make a good match, and had much in common.

Well, turns out he's been visiting she and her husband the last few days, and I met him, and got to hang out with them a bit. Then he stopped over my house , to see some of my... "interesting" collections. Animal bones, mummified lizards and frogs found randomly, and all sorts of local dried insects - again, found. Along with spider models etc.

Not only did he not freak - he knew all the species, and totally appreciated all he saw. We joked, shared great wildlife stories and experiences, and so on. Oh - and I need to mention, I find him quite attractive on several levels.

The catch ? He lives about 100mi away, and loves where he lives - as I do. Which means little time - if any, to explore if there's anything there. (sigh)

We're both rare birds. But I'm not gonna get carried away, or put too much hope into this ...
Kind of like trying to connect with people on here !

Go for it!
It s 100 miles, meet about 1/2 way.
I’ve driven 2 hours one-way to meet someone, then hang out for 2-4 hours, and drove 2 hours home. Long day, but worth it.
They make these things called a hotel - you can visit and stay at a hotel.
Explore things, maybe it will go somewhere

That doesn't mean that you can't keep in touch and cultivate a friendship. If it develops into enough of a thing that one of you feels it's worth relocating to maintain someday, well... bonus.

We do keep in touch on Facebook. I've only met him in person this once, as described. And fact is , we're each well rooted where we are. Prognosis, not great. Who knows ?

Continue meeting half way anywhere that is 50 miles away from either of you, or about a 1 hour drive, enjoy life and eventually, if there is more you both can move together to a place you agree upon or the location choice will become easier.

I know this is early days but...100 miles is nothing! Plus how often does the right person come along? And you would be willing to give that up because you like where you live? If I found that person, I'd move across the country, maybe to another country... geography would not keep me from love.

Did you feel a spark of something from his side also? There is no catch at all unless you have that. Maybe plan a vacation to his part of the world and vice versa and see what transpires.

geographic incompatibility will get you every time

I disagree. Maybe for some but I wouldn't let it stop me, not for a good partner and not for love.
