Whether my heart bleeds as a liberal or not, I sometimes listen to the Dave Weinbaum Show on local radio on Fridays. I've heard many strange things there and this is one of them. Ilhan Omar is said to be very afraid of a new investigation on her behalf because she married her brother in some move to grant citizenship. The right is dancing with glee.

I had finally had enough and contacted Weinbaum through Facebook. It's a simple issue, I said. Marriage does not grant citizenship. Vet your sources. Their answer to me came back with 2 media sources that attested this was all a fact. They suggest that I should read this.

Hey, dude. You missed it. I said that marriage does not grant citizenship. You cannot show me anything in our laws that says differently. I know because I once married a foreign national. Do not let my name fool you. I'm an American born of American parents. Marrying someone from another country does not grant them citizenship. Apparently my message never reached the windmills of their minds.

Will the Trump Administration get so bad that we have to start using their kind of "facts?" Many are already saying that we cannot know what is true any longer. I beg to differ.

I've done a little research on this issue myself since I originally posted. It seems that originally there was 2 sites posting this information. They have went away to be replaced by 2 media posts repeating almost the same thing. Keep in mind that we are targeting the most fearful with fear-based messages and lies. The Trump Administration will continue to do this in many other issues but Trump does not like Muslims and Omar is a Muslim.

With names not repeated in this post, Omar married 2 separate men at different times and married them religiously and sometimes legally with a back and forth between them situation and has children by them. At one time they all lived in the same house. This is common to many Somalians and Africans in general. They all lived in Somalia at the time. There is no proof that one of the men was actually her brother but it is a claim Trump has made. Omar refuses to discuss the issue probably because it would only make it all sound worse. There is no investigation into this matter that can produce anything differently.

The bottom line here remains that marriage does not grant citizenship. Marriage and citizenship are separate issues.

Since when is "Media" a source of true knowledge. They needed to provide a government site ie something.gov.... that said what they were claiming.

This era of making things up has got to end. Many of us are way more fact based than this.

I remember this being easier to find prior to the Trump administration.
Now, it's a bit buried.

@bingst creepy isn't it?

@RavenCT Reflective of the creeps currently running the show.

@bingst It's getting worse by the day right now. I am past ready for change.

Marriage just offers a path to an immigrant visa, and even that isn't automatic or certain.

Just this morning on Facebook I heard from Dave Weinbaum again. He says that "even the left-leaning Snopes is confused on this issue" of Omar. No, Dave, they are not. I'm sure they know that marriage does not grant citizenship. Also, if Snopes is "left-leaning" does that mean the many misleading entries there about Omar would be true if there was nobody to report otherwise? This issue and many others equally misleading is why I can never support the Trump Administration. What they do is create "alternate facts" to support your fear.

@DenoPenno Wait... left-leaning fact-checking? LMAO and SMH
I think it makes me want to cry a little.

@bingst Apparently Snopes is not for conservatives in any fact checking. Is it because conservatives use alternative facts? Maybe they feel like Snopes uses alternative facts.
