Uber loses license to operate in London, one of its biggest markets
I heard in a news report about this on public radio, and they raised the issue of Uber drivers not having proper insurance. I would think that driving people around as a business carries a high amount of liability, and thus the need for the right kind of insurance, at least in the USA. It also just occurs to me to wonder if insurance companies can refuse to cover damages and hospitalizations due to having the wrong kind of coverage.
True, among other issues, drivers can refuse any riders -- doesn't conform to the ADA. In many places, drivers' background checks don't include fingerprints. Worst, IMO, is that Uber considers drivers contractors rather than employees so they don't have to pay benefits.
