The answer to reversing climate change may be whales. The economics are impressive, each whale now valued at $2 million - but only when alive in the ocean!
I have serious doubts about the claims in this article, starting with the idea of carbon being sequestered in the bodies of whales. Sure, some carbon is sequestered, but eventually the whales die and every molecule of that carbon gets reoxidized. With every breath those whales emit carbon dioxide.
I'm willing to try anything at this late point in the game.
As to the effectiveness of an economist putting dollar value(s) on life forms in order to change attitudes on CC -- color me skeptical
Phytoplankton is worthless. Except to whales and all the other animals that eat them.
But assigning a dollar figure is nuts. Doesn't that mean the food the whales eat should also be worth alot?
