Jon Bon Jovi who operates 2 free restaurants for the homeless and disadvantaged, lovingly donates an additional $525,000 to build a living faciity for homeless veterans. Kudos in order!!!!! Agree/Disagree??
He rocks a lot more with his philanthropy than he does with his music.
Kudos to him and those he works with, but the system(s) that creates homeless (whatever's) is still in existance, still cranking out disadvantaged people that will be exploited and in need of assistance - which only some will get.
So while a portion of me likes news like this, another portion is screaming that this project will house only 77 veterans out of 40,000 homeless vets (both figures from the article) and help several hundred more in other ways. That means it will help a fraction of a % of the people needing it. To me it reveals how little is actually being done to help them.
Full disclosure: i have a step brother who was homeless by choice and has been working this end of the homeless plight for 40 years.
My 24 year old daughter is homeless by choice. She currently lives in NH in her Dad's dilapitated motor home without heat, running water and toilet working. Where they park that thing near Nashua, NH I have no idea. She takes showers at her Dad's apartment since I was forced to sell my house.
@sassygirl3869 he chose to be homeless just to understand what its like to be homeless. Thought that would show him "the way" to eradicate homelessness. Princeton graduate, but an ideologue that keeps pounding his head against reality trying to see which cracks first.
Reality's winning, btw.
@1of5 My daughter could get disability for her recent seizure disorder but is too lazy to get diagnosed and do testing. She gets food stamps but thats about it.
@sassygirl3869 can't save prople from themselves.
@1of5 nope.
