Hawking was wrong. If greed and/or stupidity could end the human race they would have done it long ago.

Ya they are a bad combination.

Might have already happened and too late to reverse it, for all I know.

It is likely.

He was pretty smart, I’m sure he was correct in his thinking on this one!

2

Hard to predict the future. The butterfly flaps its wings and everything changes, perhaps, but there are lots more things out there which could be fatal. Hawking was not a biologist, so what about infectious disease, genetic decay and drift. Greed and stupidity may be the reasons why we fail to rise to the challenges, but they may not be the only challenges.

Hard to tell if the end will be quick, through a greed-driven nuclear war, or slow, through overpopulation and/or greed- / stupidity- driven climate change denial, but yes, I agree.

1

Disagree. Both seem to be steaming right along and have since the beginning. No end in sight.

@ToolGuy you mean the first five didn't work?

@ToolGuy and were dinosaurs greedy, stupid or both?
Remember the post? "According to Stephen Hawking greed and stupidity are what will end the human race. Agree/Disagree?"

We will be very hard to eliminate. We reproduce and protect our young better than any other animal on the planet. We are violent and territorial to the extreme, not as individuals, but as tribes. I think to even see a major reduction in the human population would require a whole new breed of bacteria or fast moving viruses. Other than that, another direct hit from an astroid or a major change in our sun could wipe us out. We have over the centuries wiped out millions of our own repeatedly with very little overall effect.

Not to mention the Bubonic Plague & etc.

At this point, if Nature does what it will we may survive. If it is up to us I do not think so, I don't think we are smart enough. I would like to be proven wrong, but I will not hold my breath.

2

There are ways to avoid it, but people are so mollycoddled, spoiled and entitled now, they would never be willing to make the sacrifices required to allow the race as a whole to save itself.

So yes

I don't know about the human race, but the U.S. for sure. I have thought that for the last three decades.

The dumbing down of the UK is setting us on the same path too.

Agree
