If you are married, or were married, how did you or your S.O. propose?

Where did it happen?

She said, "I'm pregnant." We were 19. A jeweler on The Drag let us finance a $30 gold band at $10 down and $5 a month for 4 months with no interest. We eloped on Thanksgiving Day and were married in Acuña, Coahuilla. We were married for 52 years.

In the lift going up to my flat..Then I asked the girls I lived with what their opinion was. It was a great shock at the time.

I planned several approaches but in the end I just asked her to open the brown bag on the dresser she said yes and now it has been58 years and going strong.

Way to go!

She got to me first. Sadie Hawkins day. During a winter weekend in Toronto.

He took me to a Chinese restaurant and proposed in a fortune cookie. Pretty awesome. That was the highlight of the relationship. Lol

My ex had put the ring in a cracker jack box (something he already told me earlier he had heard someone else did and thought it was funny) and then during a commercial on TV, he tossed the crackerjack box to me and said "I guess this is yours." --- Needless to say, I was less than impressed with his timing and delivery. Had it been a surprise and a different setting, it might have been romantic. It could work well for someone who didn't spill the beans in advance.

I made the mistake of marrying him 36 years ago today, a day I hugely regret. I left the marriage in 2007 and bought myself a "freedom" ring with a proposal to myself to look out for my own well being going forward.

No proposal, I was drunk, totally plastered, we were in an extremely intimate situation and my ex declared we were going to get married. It was 4 in the morning, 20 minutes later while I was still 1/2 drunk in post coital bliss she rang and informed her parents. I stopped drinking almost completely very soon after.

We discussed marriage and had mutually decided that we wanted to get married. I didn't know at the time that he had been paying on a ring that he had designed for me for quite a while. He was so excited the day he picked it up that he proposed to me in my mom's living room. We have been married for 22 years.

I was trying to get out the door to get to work. In retrospect very telling

I asked if she really wanted to do this and she said yes so I gave her the ring and we were married four days later 21 years ago and not planning any changes. It worked.

@btroje Thank you.

Last one. In the car, in front of the jewelry store.

I proposed to my second wife on the deck of the Star of Honolulu touring boat while on vacation. I had to smuggle the ring in my sock. She was blown away. LOL!

It must not have been anything special because I really don't remember either one of them.

2

I've been married twice and I actually don't remember an actual proposal. Both times we lived together first and it just became a kind of discussion. Not really a proposal.

I don't remember. I just remember threatening him and telling him to never ask me to marry him, but he must have anyway.

I knew I had weak boundaries and tended to see men as pals, so couldn't turn down a "bro."
