When you are living paycheck to paycheck, as most American peasants are, all it takes is one, or at most two, bad breaks, and you are on the road to homelessness....

@Fred_Snerd I'm not surprised. There are an unbelievable number of Americans who hate and blame the poor.

Do you think they hate and blame the poor so they don't feel obliged to do anything for them? Is it so they don't have to feel guilty? And I know it suits the government because they don't want to increase social welfare.

@MsDemeanour In a word, Yes. They also hate the poor because it makes them feel superior and more secure that it could never happen to them, or so they think.

@TomMcGiverin That's a sad indictment on the human state. I don't understand why people choose selfishness over altruism. Perhaps they need more suffering in their lives lol.

@MsDemeanour Suffering by itself does not result in empathy in humans. Some do gain that thru suffering and others react to their suffering by blaming others for it or developing resentments towards others, often groups of people that they blame for their suffering. It all depends on how the individual processes their suffering.

@TomMcGiverin Yes you are right of course. So many blame every one and every thing before they self-reflect.
