What do you think about this meme? Is the “creator” correct!

When a company’s retirement fund invests in the market, are its employees capitalists of a sort?

@ToolGuy A technicality of the law? They may retire richer or poorer but the fund owns the shares? Who once said the law is an ass?

@yvilletom From Dickens I think.

I believe the meme is correct. A worker or a consumer is not the same as a capitalist.

According to the definition, a capitalist owns the means of production. In other words they might own a factory or a mom & pop business. But just being a worker and home renter does not make one a capitalist. Also just being a supporter of capitalism does not mean you own any means of production. Thinking you do, just means the capitalists have you thinking you are one of them so you will unwittingly support their dominance over you.

That is very true but you can also be a capitalist in that you are a supporter of the economic system called capitalism.

Sounds like a play on semantics to me. I’m not sure what point is being made, but then I can miss the obvious sometimes!
