How many veterans are on here, and if you are a veteran, did you see combat?
I am a Marine, and I was not in combat.

Retired Navy Desert Storm veteran here. Didn't see much combat. Lobbed tomahawks into Kuwait and Bagdahd from the Gulf of Oman. In 1988 I did take part in operation prying mantis. I was scarred shitless that day!

I was an Air Force firefighter. I was at Offutt AFB from 75-79. If you remember Looking Glass Offutt is the place it took off from 3 times a day.

Nope, and I don’t envy anyone who’s seen combat. Army... Iraq 07-08 and Afghanistan 14-15.

Army 1999-2003. I did not deploy. Was mostly stationed in Alabama and for an Oregonian, it was kind of like being in a foreign country...

Air Force vet here. Only did one hitch, during peacetime (1979-83).

Marine Corps. 1975-1979. No combat duty. I had 4 great years in, I'm glad I did it, however 4 years was enough.

I served in the US Army from 1959 to mid 1962. There was no active combat at that time. During the year I served in West Berlin, Kruschev was frequently threatening to start World War II is we did not get our of Berlin and that was the time when the Berlin Wall was erected.

We even had secret evacuation plans in case the Russian did attack (we were 3,000 troops 110 miles deep in Russian controlled East Germany, and surrounded by 300.000, Russian troops). I Iwas to be one of a small group of troops to stay behind and fight a suicide holding action as many units tried to break out to West Germany. We were all glad that the Russian attack never came.

Army during the 80s in Germany. The occasional flipping the bird at and by east german soldiers was pretty much it.
