Does anyone else find the Bible Belt to be a suffocating place? Does the heat have anything to do with slowing people's minds down?

Moved here 5 years ago. Was very strange at first. And coworkers were shocked at my lack of religion. And my ability to be open about it. Took some time but am feeling more comfortable now. Do not miss the snow. Beautiful and warm so much water everywhere. I get blessed alot. It used to offend me but now I just take it as a greeting

I don't live in the USA so don't get that bullshit.

I lived most of my life in the Bible Headband (Western Michigan north of Kalamazoo and west of Lansing). It’s really hard to be chill in such a hostile place, but I kind of lived in a rural area and so it wasn’t as in my face. When I wa sin High school there would be prayer before games and I felt very uncomfortable...

I made Pagan friends here and a Buddest couple . The Christian woman I made friends with , unfriended me because she didn't like my Halloween decorations , and I wouldn't take them down when she told me to ,

I just thought of the population as a new, interesting culture since I lived in the Appalachian hills of eastern KY and they really were.

Go live somewhere else.

A great choice that is unfortunately not always feasible. I, for example, would have to become a long distance (very long) parent to live somewhere actually progressive.

Baton Rouge is not that bad. Neither is most of Louisiana if you compare it with other parts of the South.

From what I've seen it is not somewhere I would want to live. Not even sure I want to visit in person. With internet expoloring history around the country is easy.

It can be, especially if you have to suppress your beliefs to keep your job.
Another reason why I love this site so much. It's a wonderful outlet.
Really helps to keep me sane.
Hopefully, the more you participate here, the less you will feel suffocated.
It's working for me.
