Nope it's in the dumper, it may recover or wall street will pull a slight of hand give themselves money and screw us again

It doesn't really matter until you sell.

I supplemented my normal pension contributions with my own, personal scheme. I purchased property which I let. Unlike cash in an account, property rises in value on a par with inflation, and whilst doing so also brings in extra income.

I used to have a retirement account and it was doing really well, then came the down turn in 2000. Finished me off during the next one.

I'm good. My IRA has done very well.

None that I know personally..

IMO IRAs and other savings instruments appreciate slower than the inflation rate, so lose value. However, I have one that rolled over from my 401K.

It depends on which account it is. 401K lost a little, my IRA gained a little.. So I guess it's fairly balanced.
