My sister tells me Italy has been locked down even further. No shops except groceries, no bars, no restaurants, no meetings, most offices closed, etc. Only pharmacies, banks, post offices and transport providers open.
Is this a portent of things to come in other lands also?

He assured me anyone that is not cremated will be so full of chemicals they will be unable to pass anything along to people who view the body.

It's not a matter of stopping the virus, merely slowing down its rate of spreading, so as not to overwhelm the health services. Think of it as a collander with very small holes, so the soup takes longer to escape.

Nope - they are focused on saving lives. Trump is only concerned with the economy - so he is downplaying the risks and making plans to support the economy instead of health care. Italy has provided for people to get paid and suspend mortgage payments do that people don’t lose their homes. In the US, way more people live right on the edge and can’t afford to miss a paycheck - So they will go to work and that will spread it faster.

So taking New York as an example, let's assume that there is no quarantine but only one third of the 8.6 million population catch it over a period of 3 months. That's just under 3 million. 3% of 3 million is 90 thousand deaths. That's 30 thousand coffins to build every month, or putting it in daily terms, One thousand deaths per day in New York alone.

@IrishTxJudy I think this may be what you meant? The risk increases with age, most particularly over age 60. This site has an easy visual that is regularly updated. Naturally, the US will not have accurate statistics because we're not doing mass testing, and the population is not reporting due to lack of health care.
