So just lately I've been giving a lot of thought to life, the universe and our place in it. I've been very, very surprised to find myself realising that everything for which science can't provide an explanation can be elegantly explained in one way: God.

I've been an atheist for my entire life. As I've described on this site before, I didn't believe in any of the religious stories I heard as a child; as a historian, I still don't believe in them in a literal sense. However, I have increasingly come to see that they contain a great deal of allegorical wisdom, and truthfully answer many questions for those who seek out the answers. With this in mind, I find that I can no longer dispute that God is real, and that He and His Son Lord Jesus Christ will benevolently guide any one of us through life if we will only accept them.

I have accepted them, and the great love I now know they have for all humanity. Today, for the first time in my life, I attended a church service. I was a little nervous about doing so due to worrying that the people there might not welcome me, but as soon as I entered the church I felt a great peace, as though I had come home to a home I never knew I had. I have never felt so at peace as I do now, and from this point onwards I'll be attending church every week. It seems fitting, really – on the day that Christ arose from the tomb, I feel I have arisen from ignorance by hearing His message to the world.

Therefore, on this day, Easter Sunday, 1st of April 2018, I am announcing that I am a Christian. As soon as I've posted this, I will be praying that each and every one of you will be blessed to see God's light as I have done, and that we will all be united in our love of Christ.

April Fools?

Actually JNEI, your first paragraph is very insightful. It defines the way many religious people think, but of course they misinterpret it. Due to scientific advances, we can understand many more things today than we could in the past. We know there are many more unexplained questions in this world, but the difference between a scientist and a religious sheep is that the scientist admits that this is just something for which we haven't been able to provide sufficient evidence yet, and the religious sheep simply attributes it to a mythical being who lives in the sky.

I have seen the light! We're putting the band back together.

I almost hurled, but deep down I knew it had to be an April Fool's prank. But wow, that hurl was close.

2

The greatest irony IS that April fools and Easter landed on the same day, but this is by far the best, definately well played.

3

Just thought I'd better fill you all in on my experiences since then... on Monday morning I received an email from God, who said "HA HA OWNED! APRIL FOOL! I wouldn't accept you if you paid Me!"

So, I'm back.

(Note: God writes "I" and "Me" in bold letters, because he's got a bit of an ego)

It's 2nd April now. Is everything back to normal?

My favourite April Fool this year was the vacuum cleaner that picked up Lego and sorted it into different colour and shapes.
