I am of the philosophy that persecuting someone for their beliefs is wrong. Even though I don't believe, I would never persecute someone for believing in God.....or whatever. I live in Santa Fe NM. This time of year (Easter) is marked by many festivities and rituals. I'm not party to it, but I don't criticize or judge those who are. For example:
There is a church in the rural town of Chimayo. On Good Friday, people start a pilgrimage to that place....walking.....some from as far as 100 miles away to honor the Easter story and bolster their faith. It is a huge part of the social fabric here. I refuse to be cynical or judge these people for their faith and beliefs, even though I can't believe it myself. I do believe Jesus was a real person, and he lived and walked a spiritual path.

You sound like a well rounded human being...the kind this world needs more of.

Agree, never persecuting anyone.
Educating however I believe is a good thing, not brainwashing, just making the information available.

I agree - persecuting someone for their religious beliefs is like persecuting someone that doesnt understand algebra.
I feel fortunate that I have broken free of religious beliefs. It wasnt easy for me - I was brain washed at an early age - why would the people that loved me the most lie to me? They didnt lie - they believed what they taught me was true.

Live and let live. As long as they don’t give me a hard time, I don’t give them a hard time.

I respect others for their beliefs too. All religions. Just don't try to jam it down my throat.

We all have to decide for ourselves what makes sense in this crazy world. I don't condemn or ridicule anyone for believing in a particular faith. To each their own...

I would hope that none of us here are of a philosophy that persecuting someone is ever the right thing to do. I am also of the philosophy that speaking out against the beliefs that people hold is not persecuting that person but merely speaking out against his beliefs. Seems a lot of folks don’t know the difference. If his beliefs don’t hurt anyone as what you describe, then accept that fact and wish them well.

Where you reside the persecution of non-believers may not be an issue. Whilst I agree that there is no point in gratuitous comments or insults, how would you contend with those who were once persecuted but now wish to persecute you?

I came back from out of town last week and people were already walking.I like it. I also went to Chimayo with a friend who is a believer last fall before he had surgery. I put the earth on his affected area for him and he was better able to go to surgery, I am not a believer but seeing a community with traditional fabric intact is good

Live an let live. I like it!

Unfortunately, MOST religions and their followers do NOT abide by live and let live. If they did there would be no problem and there might just be peace on earth.

no @jlynn37 we are fucked
