I imagine the pain (and guilt of these children thinking it's their fault) these children had to face, worse being an orphan and the nuns backing the priests in a trial. You feel like the world is against you for speaking up for your hurt and pain, for taking your childhood away. I read soooo many of these stories where priests molest little boys in their care. I wonder why these people became priests???...because the church houses such criminals and protect their evils too when they're exposed. It's sickening. These churches should close down for worship activities and use these buildings to provide shelter for the homeless and the abused and Rome should part with their trillions by paying for it. They're raking in the money but closing their eyes and ears to priest' abuse. What cushy positions these priests and the vatican hold. It's a crime on humanity. These kids are left with scars and the priests are either carrying on with business as usual and being protected or still have the odacity to appeal such crimes. I feel so angry that religious people, no matter how educated, continue to worship invisible gods and continue to enrich the evils of this world, those in charge and those that preach are at large. Can they not see or figure out for themselves (like we have) that this is the biggest con business (hideous, pedophile business) on the planet? It's a leprosy that's eating into humanity, robbing little children of their childhood and innocence.

The church has a lot to answer for. They are as guilty as the priests.

I spent some time working at a Catholic school - brand new teacher and needed a job and back then they were less worried about having only catholics and weren't as evangelically assholed. That said, I witnessed the passing on of a couple of nuns who had problems: one a straight-up bitch who the kids rebelled against (that was cool to watch) and another, Sister David, who had a "liking" shall we say for young, naive men from Africa whom she would assist in their transition to becoming citizens. Or, was it manhood?

Oh dear. I do hope that at some stage people will start being believed as all this, not reporting gives the abusers continued access. I understand it’s really difficult to report, especially as a child. Perhaps they need to be protected by having anonymity? As long as the police record cases dismissed in case someone is a repetitively vexatious claimant 
I do think the system needs to change with children having access to people to help them.

@powder well that’s confusing, what if people want different things? You can’t keep active pedophiles and children that don’t want that attention happy.
We don’t all like the same roles in life.
I don’t think anyone’s denying that children are human.
@powder and how does this shooting sit with your Step 1. above? As stated, you cannot please everyone. Did you ever hear about these guys?
I didn’t say children didn’t need nurturing and protecting. My first comment was specifically about an improvement that would assist in that matter:
In some Countries some crimes don’t require a reporter to be mentioned in affidavits and Court proceedings. I’m simply suggesting that children have a safe and available system to report crimes and grooming that is confidential and may potentially prevent future grooming/ abuse. An early intervention that the young person isn’t going to be negatively impacted by.
(There is a forum on here where someone stated that they have an abused friend who did not mind the abuse, it’s the only case like that I’ve ever heard of, and I have a feeling that down the track they may change their mind, but I chose my words on purpose...as usual...to represent my current knowledge set. Uncomfortable as it may be, it’s not my place to argue with others’ lived experience.)
@powder it wasn’t my friend. It was someone else’s in a forum on here.
I’m not disagreeing that’s it’s a mental health issue that the abused person has; which is helping them deal with the abuse until a time that they may be able to face it, but I don’t diagnose, as I’m not a psychiatrist.
It seems that we not at loggerheads and not understanding each other.
Your step 1 implies to me that the law can serve everyone and keep all happy.
I am simply disputing that claim.
I think that the law should reflect the society that it represents. In most societies it stands to protect individual freedom and the vulnerable and innocent.
This is the most fundamental difference we have, at this stage I’m not going to mention any others, as I’m about ready to disengage with you to be honest.
