Hey everyone, I'd love to get your opinion here.

My genes say I am 100% Askenazi Jew.

Question: Am I white?

The "White" sub-species (technically sub because it's been well known for a while now that we're all one species) are allegedly from the "Caucasus mountain range of Northern Turkey and southern Russia. There were few "Jewish" people - if any there....so go with #FrayedBear's comments..."Who gives a brass razoo?" (that's a new one to me...but I get the gist....)

My grandfather on my mother's side came from this region, as well...and he was jewish.

lol @ brass razoo. My dad says that a fair bit. It's a tad old fashioned and I would be more likely to say " couldn't give flying fuck" which I think is an American term but I do like to use swear words.

"Brass razoo is an Australian phrase that was first recorded in soldiers' slang in World War I. It is defined in the Oxford English Dictionary as "a non-existent coin of trivial value". It is often used in the expression I haven't got a brass razoo, meaning the speaker is out of money. Wiki

Who cares

This is a social question, not a genetic question.

7

Is this a question to level faster?
I truly dislike the whole color thing. I'm Brazilian with all my descendants from Europe- mainly Germany, Italy and some lost in Portugal, Spain, France and Austria.
When I say I am Brazilian, people label me as "not white".... lol
All about labels...

Face-to-face, he better have a weapon. "I hate Illinois Nazis."

@Beowulfsfriend I disapprove of Nazis anywhere.

@BestWithoutGods I do too. Just a quote from an old film.

Who cares? Unless you're looking for an answer that gives you superior status which is perhaps in your head already. We're all human beings. That matters most to me than to figure our your bronze-ness or your white-ness!

All, All of us, have DNA of the first people to inhabit the Earth. They originated in a part of South Africa, were black, and we all have them as ancestors. The genome project hosted by National Geographic, and read Spencer Wells.

I think none of us are 100% anything except human.

And we should care because?

4

Your genes cannot indicate you are 100% Askinazi Jew. All humans have a common gene associated with Africa, where the evolution of Neanderthals began. Strange question. Why does it matter?

4

Do you FEEL white today? Perhaps you are racially fluid... šŸ˜ˆ

4

Nobody is 100%. No group of people on this planet is so isolated (except maybe that one island tribe in the Indian Ocean) that interbreeding has not gone on. All humans carry the genes of every other human group that has ever lived.

That is why biologically we do not have a genetic marker for race in our genome. Race is a purely cultural phenomenon in humans. Differences in the amount of, and degree of melanin is solely a factor of natural selection and adaptation to a specific UV concentration.

4

We are all fucking imbreed!!!

Their are no pure anything on this planet!!!

Everything is Tainted on this planet!!!

4

Why does it matter?

By the way @DavidSilverman are you sure you mean Askenazi? Askenazi is a family name from Northern Europe, Ashkenazi were and are a Yiddish speaking people originating from what today is known as Germany whose descendants make up the vast majority of today's Hebrew peoples.

Does it really matter to you?

Are you purple?

Race is a silly construct.

2

I have wondered since childhood why people who are white sit in the sun or pay to go under lights to get a tan. This makes no sense.

2

There are no races and white is at best a sociological category. Caucasian is also consistently misused.

2

I checked "white" because that is what I think current society indicates. But there are too many complications here. The term "Jewish race" confuses because some people only see race as color and so "Jewish", which is a different term than "white" leads them to think someone of the "Jewish race" is not "white". I realize that you did not use the term race, but "white" is a term to describe race.

After all that, I will say that I think it matters less about what arbitrary color category one belongs in and more about what tribe to which one belongs. Don't get me started on the ridiculousness of the continued use of an outdated notion of race.

My mom was a Great Dane, and my dad was a Chihiuahua.
He stood on a chair.

Yep, I can see your mom in your bone structure.

BTW, Askhenazis only have about 3% of the genes of the ancient Jews. Most are descended from the Khazars, a nation in the Caucasus that converted en mass to Judaism. That's most likely why you are white.

That is a talking point by antisemitic groups so you shouldn't espouse it. European Jews are white. Although I reject everything about the Jewish religion I don't reject people and I don't consider Jews a race.

The Khazar hypothesis of Ashkenazi ancestry, often called the "Khazar myth" by its critics,[1]: 369[2]: VIII[3] is the hypothesis that Ashkenazi Jews are in large part descended from the Khazars, a multi-ethnic conglomerate of Turkic peoples who formed a semi-nomadic Khanate in and around the northern and central Caucasus and Pontic-Caspian steppe. The hypothesis draws on some medieval sources such as the Khazar Correspondence, according to which at some point in the 8thā€“9th centuries, the ruling elite of the Khazars was said by Judah Halevi and Abraham ibn Daud to have converted to Rabbinic Judaism.[4] The scope of the conversion within the Khazar Khanate remains uncertain: the evidence used to tie the Ashkenazi communities to the Khazars is meager and subject to conflicting interpretations.[5][6]

Genetic studies on Jews have found no substantive evidence of a Khazar origin among Ashkenazi Jews, but have found evidence they have mixed Near Eastern/Mediterranean and Southern European origins.[7][6][8] As per Wikipedia.

@BirdMan1 Thanks for this added analysis. One implication is that the claim of a "return" to Palestine is based on a myth.

@barjoe The Khazar descent was popularized by Arthur Koestler, a famous Jewish writer. Just because anti-Semites have taken it up doesn't make it invalid. [amazon.com]

@Krish55 I know. The Thirteenth Tribe, written beginning of the 20th century. Yes the fact that Nazis take up this theory does make it invalid. If you choose to justify using it because Koestler was a Jew. Go ahead. It's a white supremacist talking point. I just want to inform others who read of that fact. You have every right to promote this if you like.

@barjoe How did this become a white supremacist talking point? The Khazar lineage claims European Jews are not Semitic. Doesn't this then take away any basis for the supremacist anti-Semitic hatred of Jews? Jews would then be seen as just as any other Europeans from the Caucasus area. Seriously, I really don't understand how the Khazar lineage supports Aryan supremacy.

If picture in profile is you, the Askenazi Jew, and someone asked me to give a description for a police report type situation I would describe you as white. I would not be able to look at you and know your genetics being Askenazi Jew.
