Aussie Labs seem to have made a significant breakthrough with the Covid 19 virus.
In a news report they say that a certain Anti-parasite drug wipes out the virus within 48 hrs, destroying all trace of it from the infected host cells and stops the virus from being able to bond with new host cells as well.
They are presently running tests to find the exact dosage of the drug that is 100% safe for humans with Covid 19 to take.

@AnnWimsey The anti-malaria drug you're referring to is hydroxychloroquine, which is the generic name for Plaquenil, mainly used to treat malaria. Chloroquine in a different form (chloroquine phosphate), is used to clean fish tanks. That is what killed those people.

I've been taking hydroxychloroquine for over 10 years for an autoimmune issue. It's fairly innocuous in clinical dosage and I was told by my doctor that side effects are minor and fully reversible upon discontinuation. I have not had any problems of any kind with the medication.

The drug is "Ivermectin", used in "Heartguard" to protect dogs, for example, from worms ( a monthly chewable). It can also be used on humans for parasites........how this would apply to a virus is not at all clear to me, and I would expect highly toxic side effects as well. Just like that anti-malaria drug didn't pan out, and a couple people died from taking it, use CAUTION!
Remember, people have been trying to eliminate/prevent the common cold (Another VIRUS) for forever, with No success at all.......

Yes, and that is why our Aussie Labs have been doing very rigorous testing on this for well over 3 weeks now.
The next stage they intend to go to is to test it out on Lab Rats ( they wanted to use Liberal-National Party Politicians but the politicians claimed Diplomatic Immunity...LOL) and ferrets.
Btw, @AnneWhimsey, FYI, there are numerous drugs out there that are designed for one purpose but are also found to be effective for numerous other diseases as well.
For example, Quinine, normally used for Malaria but also very effective in the treatment of Muscular Cramps and spasms, Aspirin - an analgesic, also used for the teatment of blood disorders, hardening of the arterial and venous systems, Methyltrexate- used in Chemotherapy but also very effective in the treatment of Chronic and debilitating Arthritis, Paracetamol - a mild analgesic, also used to lower the temperature in patients with fevers associated with infections, etc.

@ToolGuy Yes, a truly big shame he couldn't complete his work.
Had he done so we could have been able to stop almost ALL viruses in their tracks.

@Triphid um, yes, but if you read the article, so far it has only been effective IN VITRO, so unless you can find us all great big wombs, nothing is happening anytime soon

@AnneWimsey For your edification, and sorry to burst your little bubble, the term "In Vitro" comes from the Latin language and means precisely " In Glass" and NOT in the womb since that term, "In Utero" also comes from the Latin language and means precisely "Unborn and stil " In the Uterus" or In the Womb.
Ergo, Scientists use GLASS ( VITRO ) containers, e.g. Test Tubes, Agar dishes, Beakers, Flasks, etc, etc, AND NOT Uteri ( plural of Uterus btw) for experiments.
Sorry to have burst your little bubble, BUT I would have though that a Septigenarian such as yourself might have either known the differences between the two terms or at least used the vast resources of the Internet to research and find the orrect terminolgy to use when replying.

@Triphid so, even worse, not tested yet on even one living thing, just tried in test tubes...but you post implying it will be ready to save us all in a short time!? How misleading & nasty of you. And yes, I had 3 years of Latin, but over 55 years ago.

@AnneWimsey Nasty, NO, I merely utilized/borrowed fro your comment in a previous posting elsewhere where you attempted to deride and denigrate me, after all, there is a saying, " Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
Ergo, I merely did the correct thing and RETURNED the favour.

I wonder how long it will take before a vaccine is ready

It's not a vaccine, it is a drug to kill the virus once it is in the body.
Aussie Labs are almost ready to run trial tests of a Covid 19 Vaccine and have it ready for approval for human usage within the next 3-6 months or earlier.

Yay! We rule 💥💥😁

But we're #1 (in infections) in the USA!

@AmyTheBruce yeah, I think we'll let you keep that record. 😄 You could also aspire to be #1 in recovery rates.

Yep, Australia is at the cutting edge of medical science, especially cancer research.

Move over world, the Aussie’s are coming!

@Cyklone Yep, America can keep the Top Spot for infection rates, we will be more than satisfied to be the first to find BOTH a treatment and a vaccine.
