For years I had to wear suits to work because I frequently went to court and the judges insisted. When I retired I took to wearing Hawaiian shirts because they are comfortable and colorful, almost like the opposite of suits. What thing have you had to do (other than going to church) that you have decided you will never do again? Full disclosure, I still wear a suit on rare occasions because I look good in a suit, well, better anyway.
I am not sure which I miss less... professional attire, or starting the day too early! I HATE (seldom use that word) business slacks. It's hard to make me feel any uglier. I wore lots of dresses to work, but that meant wearing heels which really took a toll on my foot health. In retirement, I wear what I like: flowing skirts, dresses, and tops, maybe over leggings or knit bell bottoms. I feel tons more relaxed and like "me".
I also love doing life according my natural circadian rhythm. I tend to get sleepy between 12 and 3 AM, waking up between 8-10A, instead of the dreaded 6! My doctor says I am the healthiest he's ever seen me. Notice, sleeping in a bit in NO way equates with laziness. I don't ever sleep more than 8 hours (results in migraine) and am quite productive/active. The attitude at work that I either must stay up partying/drinking all night (I do not take intoxicants of any kind) OR am lazy and want to sleep all day were both wrong as they could be. FWIW, the currently living three generations of my family have the same "clock". It's very likely genetic.
It is so much better to be able to wear what you want and plan your own schedule. I wish I had been able to do so from a younger age.
