I have been thinking about switching to vegetarian diet but I lack the will power or would I say the technique on how to gradually switch. Has anyone here gone through this change, would love to learn from your experience? Can anyone here recommend a guide on how to safely switch to vegetarian diet without negative dietary consequences?

I go w/ 2 meals a day -- one definitely not veggie! -- the night cap MAY consist of a huge salad - reinforced w/ olives, mushrooms, feta cheese, -- and yes, a few slices of salami for the salt and taste -- but the bulk is veggie you do NOT have to go 100% veggie -- just cutting down to where meat is the flavor note to a meal of rice, veggies, salad -- is probably healthy enough. Flame war starts here.....

Every time legumes like beans, lentils, and peanuts are combined with grains like wheat, rice, and corn, a complete protein is born. Peanut butter on whole wheat is an easy snack that, while pretty high in calories, provides a heaping dose of all the essential amino acids and plenty of healthy fats to boot.

I don't know about vegetarian diets in particular, but what I do know is that id you don't have a lot of food options and if food doesn't taste good, dietary changes don't generally last for the long term. Find some recipes and foods you would be excited to try and incorporate them into your current diet. Keep adding vegetarian options while cutting back your meat optons until you are confident, knowledgable and prepared to make the full switch! You might also educate yourself on some of the nutritional challenges of switching to some vegetarian diets. You will need to have foods options or nutritional supplements that will take the place of vitamins and minerals provided through eating meat and dairy.

Go about it in a way that eases you into it. Maybe two or three meatless days a week with a gradual increase into total vegetarianism. I went cold turkey (no pun intended) when I became a veggie, but that doesn't work for everyone. There are many good books, blogs, and websites that can help you. Best of luck! Oh, and watching the movie "Earthlings" will really give you a push.

Thanks for your comment. Would check out the movie

I too am thinking about it. I basically intend to one day. I have had bouts in the past.
For now I just have the ocassional meat free meal and cut down the amount of meat I eat.
This has forced me to learn new ways and things to cook.
We have a challenge here, one has to prepare a meal using only what we can forage, most form the garden but some from walks. So meat is out. Makes it fun.
I think variety is the answer, I have learned how to cook tofu, when vego I use a lot of mushrooms.

I've done it. I feel great, but I do take B12 and some iron supplements. It can be fun when you seek out organic, vegan restaurants. Some of them are wonderful. Recipes are available. You relish the taste of vegetables and fruit. And for me, the guilt of not eating animals is a gift. Plus, today, there are so few humane farms. What is being done to livestock is beyond deplorable and produces sick, infected animals that are scary to eat. The hospital industry is probably reaping the financial benefit. Also, I eat organic because of the GMO's that harbor Glyphosate. (That means cancer as all the other pesticides do.) So welcome aboard. Have fun with it.

Well, I cut out all red meat at first, and later stopped eating milk products, and all meat except for fish. I finally elminated most animal products but my skin got so dry I had to add a boiled egg per day, for Omega-3 oil.

Take the plunge, I watched one documentary and changed that moment to veganism. I like to think of myself as a slave to reason and when I understood that I was putting petrol in a diesel car I had to switch. You should intrespect why you wish to switch. Youll feel much better when you do and have many more positive long term effects to going whole food plant based, eating real food. I'd recommend taking a vegan/vegetarian pill suppliment to accompany your diet and to make sure your not lazy with your food choices, research and adopt a balanced diet low in fat, refined and processed foods. Can't feel worse doing that. Maybe in the same way a smoker feels worse after giving up poisoning themselves but after you get your body and biome readjusted (about a month in) your on the road to recovery.
