My checking account shows a deposit of $2400 to be made April 15. Of course I am not going to refuse it, but can our government afford to pay us for loss of income when our income is not reduced one cent? I am happy to see the money go to those who are suffering financial hardship as a result of the Corona Virus, but can’t someone in this government manage the dispersal of funds intelligently?
This is as much a political move in this election year as it is an attempt to mitigate the effects of Covid19. Do we really want to incur 2.2 trillion in additional debt? We need competent, altruistic leadership that will put the good of the country ahead of partisan politics!

I am supposedly not eligible. But it showed up in my bank account today. I can't help stimulate the economy if I'm afraid they will ask me to pay it back, so it's just sitting in savings.

Oh, you won't get to see Trump's signature on the bottom left on the Memo line. I don't need or want the money either. Dirty money. 100% of whatever Trump wants to send me, presumably for my vote (nope, not for sale), will be donated to my local Humane Society animal shelter. You can do the same. Let the dirty money do some good. Or, you could find a way to give to thousands of perfectly legal strip club workers not allowed to benefit from the Trump giveaways (I suspect Pence, or "Mother", was behind this slap). Of course that may take some extra creativity.

"Strip club workers are being discriminated against and their employers blocked from a $349 billion emergency lending program designed to help employees and businesses affected by the coronavirus outbreak, according to a federal lawsuit."

[detroitnews.com]

That is bullshit, based on outdated morality. Probably many, if not most of the strippers are moms with young kids who badly need the money.

@TomMcGiverin I agree completely. In another post elsewhere I pointed out that I hope the stripers that had nursing licenses kept them active so they can jump in where they're really needed now. I've never visited strip clubs but I'm pretty confident that they include ladies from all walks of life simply attracted to the fast money when other things (and men) have failed them. Crushing them financially is no way to "MAGA".

I see the payment as compensation for the hidden costs of a disrupted life. I had plans to vacation abroad that I had to cancel. The airlines, travel agents, and cruise company are making it difficult to recover deposits. The loss far exceeds $1200.

Financial help certainly will be helpful for some individuals and companies, but I totally agree that relief should be more judiciously allocated. Might have been impossible to sort it out though. Personally I am happy with people who work with the public or clean up after them getting a little extra. I think of it as hazard pay. I'm sure a lot of those people have to work.

I get VA disability so my pay never stopped but apparently they're still sending me like $1200. I plan on spending it all on weed.

Well done, supporting local small business...

@TomMcGiverin thats how I view it as well

I'll bet weed businesses and their employees will be excluded from these financial benefits, as strip club workers and owners are (see my comment above). They went through and decided who lives and who dies. Which businesses can go on and wich will go bankrupt. That was why Trump wanted the final say in what businesses gain and which lose, with no accountability for at least 6-months, if at all. Six months get's him right up to about Election Day.

@mtnhome well, you can bet away but weederies are considered essential businesses in Oklahoma and were allowed to stay open. so we have some support on some level.

@JeffMesser Well, I'm happy to hear that, but "staying open" wasn't at all what I was alluding to... I was talking about business survival loans and grants. And I wonder if even "staying open" varies from state to state? Weed businesses have, right to today, I believe, been perceived as the poor bastard child of the illegal drug businesses and not eligible for Fed-Approved commercial banking privileges and many other normal business services. Some states may call them "essential" (essential to their tax base at least), but if Trump can eliminate "Adult Clubs" from Fed benefits offered to most other businesses, then I'd expect there to be a few old-fashioned types in the Trump system who will be driving to eliminate weed businesses from the Trillion$ in Fed benefits other businesses will be "rolling" in. Or maybe more likely, they'll make the life and death calls on which ones make it and/or don't, based on the good ole' buddy system and campaign financing. We all know the business will be consolidating in a cutthroat manner with very few biggies controlling the weed market in a few years. This is their big chance to make that happen.

@mtnhome ok whatever.

I agree. Seems like the money should be dispersed to states based on the number of people filing for unemployment benefits.....it’s such a mess.

Anything this big (the biggest EVER), done this quickly (the quickest EVER), will be done wastefully, unfairly and despicably (the worst EVER). We've now entered the Twilight Zone of American financial destruction and a further re-aligning of the classes. Call it Financial-distancing. Trump gets to pick the winners and losers, with NO accountability. How's that going to work-out for us? The backroom deals are being made right now, as Congress has just decided to give themselves another three-weeks' vacation. The shit has hit the fan and it's not going to work out well for most. Brace yourselves.

I consider the virus relief check to be blood money from the government, at least in my case. I don't need the money and I feel they are trying to buy off and pacify voters so they don't get outraged at how this crisis is being dealt with by both parties in DC. I believe neither party really cares how many people die or go broke or homeless from this crisis. I will donate my government money to my local food bank so it goes to the people that really need it the most.
